Australia batsman Adam Voges has backed the idea of allowing substitute fielders for players who may be suffering a concussion as a result of a head injury on the field of play. His comments came as he recounted how his freak head injury during a recent County Championship match between Hampshire and Middlesex had left him feeling like he had a “hangover” for 10 days thereafter.”The fact that you get pulled out of the game immediately and you don’t have any say in that, is one factor in it,” Voges said. “I understand the argument that, if you allow a sub for concussion, why wouldn’t you allow a sub for other injuries. It could be a bit of a grey area. I understand that. But I am in favour of the sub rule.”Voges had been struck at the back of his head, while fielding, by a ball thrown back towards the wicketkeeper after Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry had hit a boundary. Voges fell to the ground immediately, before being helped off the field by two physios and taken to hospital with a suspected concussion.”I was standing at slip, just contemplating a fielding change, or a bowling change, I can’t quite remember,” he recalled. “I didn’t really pay attention to where the ball had gone or when it was coming back. It wasn’t until very late that the keeper realised the ball was going over his head and it hit me straight in the back of the head. It was just a freak accident really.”This was the first time Voges had been forced from the field due to a head injury. Though he was hospitalised only briefly, he said that he felt groggy and unwell for several days after the incident.”I was a bit groggy for a week, week and a half after that and missed the next game,” Voges said. “It was probably my first experience with it. It felt like I was waking up with a hangover. It wasn’t until 10 days after it that I started to feel right again.”In May, Cricket Australia had proposed trialling the concussion subs idea for two years in domestic first-class cricket, but the ICC cricket committee, which met in early June, argued that “the current laws and playing conditions allow players to receive the best possible medical treatment and further change to the regulations in this area is not required at present”.

Spurs: Mason Must Ditch "Selfish" £90k-p/w Flop

This season certainly hasn't gone to plan for Richarlison at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Brazilian was signed for £60m from Everton last summer in the hope that he could compete with and support Spurs' formidable duo of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son but boasts just one goal in the Premier League so far this campaign.

How has Richarlison performed for Spurs?

After scoring his first top-flight goal in Tottenham colours off the bench against Liverpool, Richarlison was rewarded with starts against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa but showed very little in either appearance, earning 6.52 and 5.76 ratings from WhoScored for his performances.

Unfortunately for the 26-year-old, this has been a consistent theme across the season, with a woeful 6.43 average rating to his name across his 25 top-flight appearances, which ranks him as the 16th-best performer in Spurs' squad.

Considering the significant fee that was invested in him, something which has been a rarity under Daniel Levy, it is extremely disappointing that he has struggled so much, especially when you realise he managed three goals in four games at the World Cup as Brazil's starting striker.

Richarlison certainly isn't alone in being an underperforming attacker in Spurs' squad, as both Dejan Kulusevski and Heung-min Son have failed to replicate their displays from last season, with just 23 goal contributions between them in the league, compared to 43 in 2021/22.

However, it is perhaps the poor attitude of the former Watford man which has meant he has spent much of the season on the bench, with Antonio Conte dubbing him "selfish" after his outburst following the Champions League exit against AC Milan.

Should Richarlison be dropped against Brentford?

The controversial frontman simply hasn't offered enough when he has been on the pitch for Spurs, as he ranks sixth for shots, seventh for key passes and seventh for dribbles per game in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur interim managerRyanMasonapplauds fans.

While this season has been an unmitigated disaster for Spurs, with their top-four hopes over and their trophy cabinet still gathering dust, they could still salvage a Europa League spot with positive results in their final two games.

Brentford today won't be an easy game given the impressive job Thomas Frank has done with the Bees, but Mason cannot rely on Harry Kane to bail him out once again, and needs to give the England captain the best possible support in attack.

Therefore, after failing to repay his faith in the two most recent games, Mason must drop the £90k-per-week flop for this afternoon's game in north London.

BCB president Nazmul Hassan has said that the board has finalised a bowling coach for the Bangladesh team. The name of the individual cannot be revealed yet due to an obligation but Hassan said that he would arrive in the country at the end of August.

On England’s security inspection tour: “We sent the ECB a security proposal. We are guessing that they will visit Bangladesh when they go to India for the security inspection trip, possibly between August 15 to 20.”
On Dhaka Premier League payment delay: “It is very unfortunate that the players had to meet the CEO even after we set the clubs the deadline. The board will pay even if the club doesn’t. It shouldn’t have been delayed. The board will deal with the legal procedure with the clubs later. Players shouldn’t suffer. It was our mistake; we must pay them immediately.”

The board had been looking for a new bowling coach since Heath Streak quit in May. Aaqib Javed had turned down the offer in June, and since then, the BCB had put up a shortlist of candidates.”The good news is that our search is over,” Hassan said. “We know who we will take [as bowling coach]. But, unfortunately, because of some obligations, we cannot announce his name. We are hoping he will come to Dhaka any time in the last week of this month. But since he is working somewhere, we shouldn’t be making any announcements. Once his contract is over, we will announce it together.”Meanwhile, Hassan informed that former India left-arm spinner Venkatapathy Raju will arrive in Dhaka later this month as a spin consultant for the High Performance programme. He also said that Javed, who is currently in Dhaka for a seven-day stint as the HP’s pace consultant, has been asked to take a look at the progress of the bowling actions of Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny, who were suspended by the ICC for illegal bowling actions in March.

Newcastle United Now "Tracking" £40m Dribbling "Monster"

Newcastle United are “tracking” Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus ahead of a potential move to the Premier League, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein.

Is Mohammed Kudus leaving Ajax?

The Ghana international arrived at the Johan Cruyff Arena back in 2020 and has since gone on to make 83 senior appearances to date, and with his contract still having another two years remaining, he has grabbed the attention of the hierarchy at St James' Park.

Speaking to NUFC Matters in March, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs revealed that the Magpies sent scouts to watch the 22-year-old at the World Cup in Qatar in the closing stages of last year, and admitted that whilst the north-east outfit were there, nothing is "advanced". Now, that claim has further been backed up by yet another reliable source…

Are Newcastle signing Kudus?

Taking to Twitter, Ornstein revealed that Newcastle are indeed keeping tabs on Kudus ahead of the summer, but at this stage, he’s not a player at the top of the transfer wishlist for PIF and Eddie Howe. He wrote:

“Mohammed Kudus declined 1yr extension at Ajax in April + informed club of wish to leave. Contract 2025 + #Ajax tend to sell at this stage. Likely to take £40m. Likes of #AFC #MUFC #NUFC tracking 22yo although not current top target.”

Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus.

Despite Newcastle securing qualification for the Champions League, they will obviously still be restricted in what business they can complete due to Financial Fair Play regulations, but should a cut-price deal for Kudus become a possibility, the board should definitely splash the cash to bring the attacking midfielder to St. James’.

Ajax’s left-footed gem has an impressive 14 goal contributions (11 goals and three assists) to his name in 29 Eredivisie appearances this season and this form has seen him dubbed a “monster” for his performances on the international stage by journalist Muftawu Nabila Abdulai.

The Champions League participant, who is a versatile operator with his ability to play in five various positions across the midfield and the frontline, also ranks in the 99th percentile for four different statistics among his positional peers playing at similar level.

As per FBref, these include successful take-ons and pass completion, so is clearly proficient in dribbling past his marker and is strong in his link-up play with his fellow teammates, potentially making him the perfect reinforcement for Howe ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

£150k-p/w Chelsea Star Still Targeted Despite Other Transfer Deals

Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz is being targeted by Real Madrid independently of their other business, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

What's the latest on Kai Havertz?

It was recently revealed that Real Madrid are lining up a shock move for the 23-year-old, as they aim to add a versatile attacking option to their squad.

The forward is set to be targeted irrespective of the future of Karim Benzema or their reported interest in Harry Kane, and it has now been announced that Benzema will depart the club after days of uncertainty.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano claimed that Havertz is a target regardless of the decision over Benzema and their other attackers.

"The priority of Real Madrid now, I told you about Kai Havertz, but this is not dependent on Benzema in or out, in any case, Real Madrid want to go for others, and will try to understand the conditions of the deal," he stated.

"For Havertz, it's different, Havertz is a different kind of player, and Real Madrid are interested in him in any case."

Should Havertz go to Real Madrid?

The German international has been mostly disappointing at Chelsea, as despite scoring the winner in the Champions League final, his performances in front of goal have been underwhelming.

The attacker is yet to score more than ten league goals in a season since arriving at Stamford Bridge for around £75m in 2020, and Chelsea particularly struggled in front of goal this season, scoring just 38 times in 38 games.

Kai Havertz celebrates after scoring for Chelsea in the Premier League against Everton.

This may raise questions about why the European Champions are interested in a move for the £150k-per-week forward, and whether Havertz will benefit from moving to the Spanish giants.

Real Madrid have announced that Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio, Mariano and Benzema will all leave this summer, and a versatile attacker as depth is now desired.

Havertz is seen as an option, given that he has played significant minutes on both wings, in midfield and as a false number nine in his career so far, and he could provide cover for wingers Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, and any striker that may come in to replace Benzema.

With Chelsea also targeting a forward, with Victor Osimhen linked, a move away may be the best option for Havertz, as he aims to revive his career as his value continues to fall.

This may be the best time for Chelsea to sell the attacker, given that he has two years left on his deal, and his performances have not warranted either a starting spot or a contract extension.

England have included two uncapped players for their five ODIs in the West Indies next month. Beth Langston and Sophie Ecclestone, who have only played T20 internationals before, are included a touring squad of 15.Langston, a right-arm seamer, has recovered from a broken thumb suffered in training and is expected to be fit for the second half of the series, having last been involved with England in the Caribbean three years ago. Ecclestone, 17, is one of two slow left-arm bowlers in the squad, alongside Alex Hartley, who is selected for her first tour.England will be without batsman Fran Wilson, who suffered a broken finger in training last week, but are otherwise at full strength and looking to continue the momentum of their record-breaking series against Pakistan. The tour will be Heather Knight’s first overseas assignment since taking the captaincy after Charlotte Edwards’ retirement.”We’ve done a lot of soul searching and worked incredibly hard since the ICC Women’s World T20 at the start of this year,” England women’s coach, Mark Robinson, said. “The summer series against Pakistan couldn’t have gone any better in terms of results, but more importantly the manner in which we went about playing our cricket was really pleasing.”This tour to the West Indies will now give us a good idea of how far we have come. The heat of Jamaica and the ability of the West Indies team will test our skills, fitness and mental strength. Everyone is hugely excited by the challenge ahead.”The unfortunate news of losing Fran Wilson with a broken finger at the end of last week has been tempered by the news that Beth Langston’s broken thumb is healing more quickly than expected, and she should be able to play a full part in the second half of the tour. Beth is bowling with good pace at the moment, and will give us another dimension with the ball.”Sophie Ecclestone’s inclusion is a reward for all the promise she showed against Pakistan this summer. Fellow left-arm spinner Alex Hartley had a fantastic Kia Super League for Surrey Stars, and along with the two off-spinners – Laura Marsh and Danielle Hazell – the four spinners gives the bowling attack lots of options and balance.”England will play two matches at the Trelawny Stadium in Jamaica, followed by three ODIs at Sabina Park – fixtures which will count towards the ICC Women’s Championship. England are currently third in the table, with four automatic qualification spots available for next year’s World Cup, ahead of trips to the West Indies and Sri Lanka.England women’s squad to tour the West Indies: Heather Knight (capt), Anya Shrubsole, Tammy Beaumont, Katherine Brunt, Sophie Ecclestone, Georgia Elwiss, Jenny Gunn, Alexandra Hartley, Danielle Hazell, Amy Jones (wk), Beth Langston, Laura Marsh, Natalie Sciver, Lauren Winfield, Danielle Wyatt

Chelsea Boosted As £290k-A-Week Star Wants To Stay

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante would "love to stay" at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer transfer window but is about to receive a huge £86m salary offer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

When is Kante out of contract at Chelsea?

The Frenchman has been an incredible servant for the Blues, arriving back in 2016 and going on to make 269 appearances so far, as well as win the Champions League and Premier League once apiece.

Kante suffered a frustrating 2022/23 season for Chelsea, with injuries constantly curtailing his progress, ultimately limiting him to just six starts in the league and only seven appearances in the competition in total.

Worryingly, the 32-year-old's current contract expires at the end of this month, so the Blues are really running out of time to agree an extension with him. A move away has been mooted, but the hope is that an agreement is reached in the next few weeks.

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante.

Does a new deal for Kante look likely?

Taking to Twitter, Romano gave an update on Kante's situation, admitting that a new deal isn't close to being agreed, but that he wants to remain at the club:

"N’Golo Kante situation remains open as he’d love to stay at Chelsea but talks are not advancing to final stages after being close to full agreement in March.

"Understand Al Ittihad and Al Nassr are the two Saudi clubs who are ready to tempt Kante for new experience."

Romano later revealed however that Saudi emissaries have flown to London to offer the player a package worth "€100m (£86m) inclusive of the image rights & commercial deals".

Kante's future simply has to be sorted in a positive manner before the month reaches its conclusion, considering he still has so much to offer as a footballer. Granted, his injury issues have been problematic and he is now in his 30s, but he is a physical machine who can still cover ground at will, when fit. That is highlighted by an average of 2.3 tackles per game across his aforementioned seven Premier League appearances this season.

Kante has been hailed as "world-class" by former Chelsea teammate Cesc Fabregas in the recent past, so to suddenly lose him this month would be a massive blow, considering he still has some years left in him at the top level. He would have to accept that a long-term extension is not called for, of course, and the fact that he seems so desperate to stay is perhaps the only positive amidst the huge bid from the Saudi clubs.

The 53-cap France international can still be the perfect foil for younger midfielders like Enzo Fernandez next season, as well as hopefully some new signings, not necessarily starting every game but being managed carefully by Mauricio Pochettino.
