Fabrizio Romano recently claimed Arsenal signing a new right-back is a possibility this transfer window, while other media sources suggest they haven't given up on their chase for a new midfield signing.

Thomas Partey's injury problems have been a thorn in Arteta's side this season, so much so that Arsenal have been linked with the likes of Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz in the build up to January.

The Brazilian looks unattainable, though, given his star presence as Unai Emery's side look to secure a coveted top four Premier League place.

Alternative options are being mooted by sections of the press, with Belgian journalist Amadou Onana claiming this week that Arsenal have even opened talks to sign Everton star Amadou Onana.

According to the reporter, Onana is keen on joining Arteta in January, and this is a transfer which could develop fairly quickly.

Following Tavolieri's claim, a separate report from Belgium has backed up Arsenal's talks for Onana, while sharing their own bit of detail on the potential transfer.

Indeed, According to news outlet Nieuwsblad, Arsenal are considering an official bid for Onana and Arteta is personally "very charmed" by him. The Gunners head coach apparently sees him as the "ideal reinforcement" for Arsenal's midfield, given his pace, power, physicality and good feet.

They back that talks have been opened over the 22-year-old, with Arsenal pushing for Onana's signature and serious about bringing him in. However, the Toffees are believed to be demanding around £52 million to let him go mid-season.

On around £100,000-per-week (SpotRac), Onana is a star player at Everton, having played 16 league games under Sean Dyche as a mainstay of his midfield.

Former Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has also called the 6 foot 3 powerhouse a real one to watch.

“I know that sometimes when we speak about players, it’s very difficult to measure their potential," said Martinez in 2022.

"I think we are talking about a 20-year-old boy, who is probably one of the most talented at that age in European football, and that’s how excited we are in Belgium."

West Ham are contending for a European place yet again this season, testament to the fine job Moyes has done since taking over for a second stint at the helm in 2020. However, their pursuit of the top four is threatened by a serious lack of depth, with star midfielder Lucas Paqueta expected to be out for around two months.

Jarrod Bowen, who has been West Ham's player of the season so far, could also be sidelined for up to three weeks after the Englishman and Paqueta hobbled off during in an FA Cup match against Bristol City last weekend. They join striker Michail Antonio on the sidelines, while summer signing Kudus is currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana.

As a result of these blows, Moyes and his West Ham recruitment team are working on signing a new forward. The Hammers have been linked with a plethora of forwards lately, including Ajax star Steven Bergwijn, Sunderland winger Jack Clarke, AZ Alkmaar striker Vangelis Pavlidis and others.

Another interesting name to have emerged is Feyenoord sensation Santiago Gimenez, who is currently enjoying the season of his life in the Eredivisie.

Now, according to Football Insider and journalist Pete O'Rourke, West Ham talks are "taking place" to sign Gimenez as Moyes actively pursues a new number nine.

It is believed they're "very interested" in the Mexico international, who Football Transfers claim is "similar" to Kudus among others, with West Ham now "stepping up" their chase for Gimenez.

The 22-year-old has scored a brilliant 18 goals in 16 league starts for Feyenoord this season, with Gimenez also attracting interest from Tottenham according to some pre-January reports. Alongside his goal-scoring abilities, former Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt has revered the player's speed.

"He’s back here in the middle of the defenders and he’s really fast," said Kuyt after one of the striker's outings. "Watching the keeper before he shoots, the rest. In my opinion, he is currently the best striker in the Eredivisie."

The Brazilian has been a fantastic signing from the moment he arrived at St James' Park two years ago, instantly becoming one of the most popular figures at the club. Not only has he provided so much quality, but he has brought fight to Eddie Howe's side making him a favourite among the supporters.

Worryingly, however, constant rumours in recent times have suggested that Bruno could be on the move soon, with a summer exit mooted in some quarters. Barcelona have arguably emerged as the favourites to sign the 26-year-old, but Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are also seen as potential suitors for him.

This seems to be partly down to Newcastle's financial situation, with a big player possibly needing to be sold in order to adhere to Financial Fair Play (FFP) rulings, but it could also be that the Brazil international wants a fresh challenge, particularly if his side miss out on Champions League football.

However, speaking to Caught Offside, Romano claimed that Bruno doesn't want to leave Newcastle in the near future, contrary to some reports doing the rounds.

“Despite rumours, nothing is clear now on Bruno Guimaraes. Bruno has not decided to leave, there’s nothing decided in terms of price, all reports on Spanish clubs are not confirmed just because time for decisions is not now. Bruno is expected to stay in January and then in the next months we will see what happens."

This has to be considered good news for Newcastle, with the idea of losing Bruno in January something that doesn't bear thinking about, let alone in the summer. Sandro Tonali's 10-match ban has already made Howe's midfield look light on options, and seeing arguably their best player in the middle of the park leave midway through the season would be a crushing blow.

It may be that the Magpies hero ends up looking for a new club at the end of the season, especially if no European football has been achieved at St James', but it is encouraging to hear that he is seemingly happy for the time being.

Bruno's importance to this Newcastle side cannot be downplayed, and his best years could still be to come, and the fact that Casemiro has lauded him recently speaks volumes, with his compatriot saying:

"Bruno is a player who has been doing an exceptional job at Newcastle. With every workout and every game I’m more comfortable with him. He is a great player, who has been demonstrating this in the most difficult competition in the world."
