What’s the word?

According to the Daily Mirror, the Yorkshire giants have offered talismanic captain Barry Bannan a two-year contract extension ahead of his current deal expring in the summer.

However, it is claimed that the 31-year-old favourite will only accept if the Owls are active and show ambition during in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Wednesday skipper is currently thought to be on around £24k-per-week at Hillsborough, which puts him quite rightly among their highest earners.

First Pulis masterclass

So far, Pulis’ reign in Sheffield hasn’t gone to plan as he’s yet to win a single game since taking over from Garry Monk – three draws, three losses.

And having scored just three goals in those six matches, the void left behind by 13-goal top scorer Steven Fletcher has become ever so much more apparant.

Although tying Bannan down to a long-term extension will be the 62-year-old’s first wise decision in charge of the Owls.

Bannan has emerged as the most influential member in the squad, tying first for goals scored – even from midfield – with two from 17 starts. The Scotsman is also averaging the most key passes (1.4) too.

Without him, the Owls midfield would practically be non-existent.

Ex-manager Steve Bruce was a massive fan of his during his short spell at Hillsborough, he said: “Barry is a very good footballer and going forward, you always want your good players. He’s been here a few years and made himself a crowd favourite and to be a favourite at a big club like this you must have ability and he’s got it in abundance.”

Whilst the veteran playmaker even drew praise from Pep Guardiola last season after the City chief labelled Bannan an “incredible player” and a “fantastic footballer” after their meeting in the FA Cup.

It’s now fully on Dejphon Chansiri to deliver the goods next month, failure to do so would be rather dangerous as Owls need their captain more than anything in 2021.

Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United visit Manchester City on Boxing Day looking to bounce back from their Carabao Cup heartache after producing a woeful display in defeat to Brentford.

The Magpies bowed out of the competition after failing to produce anywhere near the levels needed, despite facing a heavily altered Bees line-up with Thomas Frank prioritising his side’s Championship campaign.

Defeat made it three winless games in a row for Newcastle across all competitions, who will now be desperate to get their Premier League season back on course at the Etihad Stadium after losing to Leeds United and a 1-1 draw with Fulham in recent weeks.

Bruce is unlikely to make wholesale changes against Pep Guardiola’s Sky Blues, but changes are a must from the XI which lost to Brentford. So, with that in mind, here’s a line-up the Toon boss could favour…

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow is the sole Newcastle player to start all 13 of the St. James’ Park natives’ opening Premier League fixtures, and will expect to see his run in the side continue on Saturday with Martin Dubravka yet to fully overcome a pre-season heel injury.

Bruce is likely to alter the back-four which lost to Brentford with Federico Fernandez expected to be passed fit, having missed the Carabao Cup quarter-final after being withdrawn at half-time against Fulham after showing signs of serious fatigue.

Fernandez’s return will allow Bruce to name Isaac Hayden alongside Jonjo Shelvey in the engine room once again, while Jamal Lewis, Ciaran Clark and DeAndre Yedlin will start with Newcastle still without Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar, plus the recent struggles of Emil Krafth and Paul Dummett at full-back.

Bruce has been full of praise for Hayden’s recent efforts whilst slotting in at centre-half, hailing the Arsenal product, who reportedly earns £22,000-a-week, as being “terrific” against West Bromwich Albion earlier this month with a display that left the Toon chief with “food for thought”.

Ryan Fraser badly betrayed Bruce at Brentford on Tuesday night with an invisible showing that saw the summer arrival record fewer touches than Darlow and must be benched on Saturday, opening the door for Matt Ritchie to return.

Ritchie has started two of Newcastle’s last three Premier League fixtures after making his comeback from a shoulder injury in November, which Bruce noted the 31-year-old was “desperate to play” after having missed seven games across all competitions.

Bruce is likely to name Miguel Almiron centrally at the Etihad Stadium despite an underwhelming showing from the Paraguayan against Brentford, with him offering no key passes or shots whilst taking just 17 touches, per WhoScored.

The 26-year-old will retain his place having seen Jacob Murphy offer a creative touch from the right-wing, with the £3m-rated man taking two shots – only Callum Wilson (4) struck more – plus a team-high two key balls and a game-high five successful dribbles.

Questionado sobre a frase dita por palmeirenses sobre estar “no bolso” do marcador. Ele rebateu:

– É só pegar os jogos aí e ver as estatísticas. Não tenho nada contra a torcida do Palmeiras nem contra o Matheus. É uma rivalidade sadia e fora do campo- concluiu.

Já sobre a resposta escrita no Twitter sobre Matheus Sales não ter “outra coisa”, interpretada por muitos santistas como o fato do Palmeiras não ter um título Mundial, o meia deixou no ar.

Marcelo Cirino é, sem dúvida alguma, um dos grandes nomes do Flamengo neste início de temporada. Seja com passes ou finalizações, o atacante teve participação ativa em boa parte dos gols do Rubro-Negro nos quatro jogos que disputou até agora. Elogiado por Muricy Ramalho, o camisa 7 mostra que o pedido do treinador pela permanência dele, no fim do ano passado, foi a atitude correta.

Isso porque Cirino estava com um pé fora do Flamengo após a turbulenta temporada de 2015, quando começou muito bem, mas caiu de produção no segundo semestre após duas lesões em sequência e alguns excessos na vida pessoal. Parte da diretoria queria negociá-lo, embora o contrato dele vá até o fim do ano que vem. O treinador bateu o pé e disse que o atacante estava nos planos, pois confiava no potencial dele.

A partir daí, o diretor executivo de futebol Rodrigo Caetano conversou com o empresário do atleta, Pablo Miranda, e ficou confirmada a permanência do camisa 7. Também foram discutidas algumas atitudes que poderiam ser feitas para que o fator extra-campo não influenciasse o atacante. Não é à toa que ele é um dos únicos jogadores do time titular que ainda não concedeu entrevistas coletivas nesta temporada, apesar do bom desempenho dentro de campo.

Até agora, Cirino disputou quatro jogos em 2016. No primeiro, entrou após o intervalo contra o Ceará. Com ele, o time cresceu e conseguiu virar a partida amistosa – mas levou o empate no fim. Um dos gols foi dele. Diante do Atlético-MG, pela Primeira Liga, jogou o mesmo tempo que antes. Foi dele a assistência para o gol de Guerrero, que abriu o caminho para a vitória rubro-negra. Por fim, nas duas partidas do Campeonato Carioca, foi titular e teve participação ativa nas jogadas ofensivas. Na vitória sobre o Macaé, marcou o segundo gol. Tudo isso deixa o atacante bastante empolgado para a temporada que acabara de começar.

– Fico feliz por isso. Nunca deixei de trabalhar e honrar a camisa do Flamengo. Fico feliz em poder ajudar – disse, após a vitória sobre o Macaé.

TRABALHO ESPECIAL NA GÁVEA
​A boa fase que Cirino vive em 2016 começou com um grande trabalho na parte fisiológica do jogador no início da temporada. Após passar por uma artroscopia no joelho direito no último trimestre do ano passado, ele se reapresentou com desequilíbrio muscular. Como o clube investiu pesado nesta área – com a criação de um centro de excelência para a saúde dos atletas –, ele só foi liberado para trabalhar com bola quando nivelou a força das pernas, algo que evita consideravelmente a possibilidade de lesões.

A partir de então, o camisa 7 começou, depois dos demais, a treinar no campo. Iniciou um trabalho físico antes de trabalhar com bola e, quando esteve apto, já foi alçado pelo técnico Muricy Ramalho entre os titulares. Mas como ainda não estava 100%, a comissão técnica optou por deixá-lo no banco de reservas no amistoso contra o Ceará e na partida contra o Atlético-MG, pela Primeira Liga, e poupá-lo do outro amistoso, diante do Santa Cruz.
Mesmo tendo jogado, agora, com boa frequência, ele ainda passa por um trabalho especial, principalmente no dia após as partidas.

What’s the word?

The Whites have been touted with making a switch for a number of players already this month.

Whether it be Julian Draxler, Diego Costa, Kouadio Kone or Jean-Philippe Mateta, it feels as though Leeds could strengthen in a number of positions.

Though, one area they haven’t exactly looked to improve is out on the flanks. That is until now.

The Daily Mail reported this week that Leeds have discussed the possibility of signing Real Madrid’s versatile Spaniard Lucas Vazquez.

It’s not known whether a move is seriously on the cards but they may have to cough up serious money in terms of salary.

Vazquez currently earns £148k-per-week in Madrid.

Dallas upgrade

This would be a seriously impressive move from Orta if he can pull it off. Vazquez might not be the most eye-catching player at the Bernabeu but he is still a fabulous player, one who could add a great deal to this Leeds side.

Possessing the ability to play as a full-back or further forward on the wing, he is largely similar to a certain Stuart Dallas in terms of their position.

The Northern Irishman has been one of Marcelo Bielsa’s most consistent players over the last 18 months but in Vazquez, they’d land a much more athletic player.

Once described as “fearless” by Spanish outlet Marca, he epitomises that in the final third. The Spaniard leaves a few qualities to be desired defensively, but when he goes forward, he is a radiant ball of energy.

He has completed 23 successful dribbles this season – 1.2 a game – and he’s also managed 1.6 key passes a match. Vazquez’s record in the Champions League has been stellar, providing 2.6 key passes on average.

In comparison to Dallas, they are night and day. Despite providing plenty in an attacking sense, the Leeds man has managed just 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles a game.

You only need to see what Vazquez managed against Celta Vigo last weekend to understand the flair he can bring. The 29-year-old scored and assisted on his way to producing three key passes for Madrid.

The winger is very much underrated, but would surely thrive in Leeds’ possession-based side.

Um empecilho até então inesperado coloca em risco a realização do clássico entre Vasco x Flamengo, neste domingo, em São Januário. Preocupado com a segurança dos torcedores, o Ministério Público do Estado do Rio (MP-RJ) notificou a Federação de Futebol do Rio (Ferj) para que tudo seja realizado dentro das normas. A informação foi divulgada inicialmente pelo jornal “Extra”.

Em 2011, o então presidente do Vasco, Roberto Dinamite, assinou um Termo de Ajuste de Conduta (TAC). No documento, o então mandatário se comprometia a atender uma série de exigências para a realização de clássicos em São Januário.

De acordo com o TAC, o clube mandante – Vasco –, precisa notificar o rival – no caso o Flamengo –, com até 48 horas de antecedência (17h de hoje) sobre as condições do jogo, incluindo normas de segurança. O Rubro-Negro, porém, alega ainda não ter sido procurado pelo Cruz-Maltino. O presidente Eduardo Bandeira de Mello conversou com a imprensa nesta quinta-feira, na Gávea, e se mostrou preocupado. O mandatário evitou falar abertamente sobre a possibilidade do time não ir a campo, mas deixou claro que só vai dar o aval para a partida se receber garantias das autoridades de segurança.

– Como o Flamengo não foi notificado, nós fizemos um ofício para tentar entender se o TAC está sendo atendido. Caso não esteja, não gostaríamos de descumprir nenhuma decisão judicial, nem de embarcar numa aventura que possa levar algum tipo de risco aos torcedores. Gostaria que as autoridades de segurança do Rio me garantissem que não existe nenhum tipo de risco para a nossa torcida, moradores, jogadores, até agora não tive– disse.

O LANCE! também ouviu a Ferj. A entidade disse que o clássico está garantido e “não vê motivo para a não realização da partida”.

O Vasco, por sua vez, se mostrou surpreso com a possibilidade da não realização do jogo. Em contato com o LANCE!, o vice-presidente de obras e engenharia do Cruz-Maltino, André Luiz Vieira, afirmou que o clube não foi notificado por qualquer órgão público e que o estádio atende a todas as necessidades impostas para a realização de um jogo deste porte.

– Desconheço esta possibilidade (de São Januário não receber o clássico). São Januário está pronto para receber qualquer jogo. O esquema do Gepe deve ser o mesmo da partida contra o Corinthians, no fim do ano passado. Temos todos os laudos necessários para a realização do jogo – disse André Luiz.

Os laudos citados por André Luiz Vieira são as autorizações dos Bombeiros, Polícia Militar, Engenharia e Vigilância. Desde que reassumiu a presidência do clube, no início de 2015, Eurico Miranda demonstrou essa intenção de receber clássicos em São Januário.

O Grupamento Especial de Policiamento em Estádios (Gepe) também trabalha com a ideia de que o clássico está mantido.

– No que diz respeito à Polícia Militar, as exigências que constaram foram sanadas desde que fizemos o laudo liberando o estádio para receber jogos, inclusives clássicos (com 10% da carga para visitantes). Trabalhamos com a situação de que vai ter jogo, pois é o que está marcado. Se tiver alguma mudança, somente a Federação (Ferj) poderá dizer – disse o Major Silvio Luiz, ao Lance!.

وعن الثنائي ميليتاو وألابا، أكد مدرب ريال مدريد: “نوعية الاثنين رائعة، إنهما مختلفان، ميليتاو قوي جدًا ولا يُصدق، يعمل بشكل جيد للغاية في الكرات الهوائية، وألابا يتكيف جيدًا، إنهما يفهمان بعضهما البعض جيدًا ويكملان بعضهما جيدًا، كما يوجد لدينا حارس قوي جدًا ورائنا يمنحنا القوة”.

وشدد أنشيلوتي: “الحديث عن الفوز بالبطولة يبدو مبالغة بالنسبة لي، إنه انتصار فريق يقاتل من أجل الفوز ويفعل ذلك بشكل جيد، لكن كل الأشياء الجيدة اليوم قد تتغير قريبًا، علينا أن نواصل، لا أعتقد أننا وجهنا ضربة لفرق الليجا، هناك فرق تتنافس كثيرًا والفوز صعب للغاية، لدينا ميزة وسنواصل”.

وأتم بشأن مواجهة الديربي المرتقبة أمام أتلتيكو مدريد، المقرر لها يوم 12 ديسمبر الجاري: “نحن نواجه الأمر بثقة، نعلم أنها مباراة خاصة وأعتقد أنه لا يوجد مفضل في هذا النوع من المباريات، ستكون رائعة ومعقدة وسنرى ما سيحدث”.

Tottenham Hotspur have the potential to seal their best signing in recent times this month.

According to transfer expert Max Bielefeld on Sky Deutschland, Spurs are among the sides interested in signing RB Leipzig captain Marcel Sabitzer this window.

And now it has been claimed that the 26-year-old midfielder has rejected contract talks with the Bundesliga outfit as he enters the final 18 months of his current deal, as per Sky (via FussballTransfers).

This surely opens the door for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to strike, though it’ll cost him in the region of £3om, something that is within their budget, suggests The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare.

The north Londoners have seen his credentials first-hand as he scored twice to knock Tottenham out of the Champions League’s final-16 last season.

Eccleshare also claims that Sabitzer fits the ‘Mourinho prototype’ due to his athleticism and character, and even believes he would slot in nicely alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has been tremendous since his £15m summer arrival.

Sabitzer is said to hate losing, so that is certainly right up the Special One’s street.

Levy has the potential to eclipse that with a move for the Austrian international – indeed, his arrival could be more important than that and could be their best since Heung-min Son.

Mourinho still lacks that true no.10 behind Harry Kane as neither Giovani Lo Celso nor Tanguy Ndombele have stepped up to plug the void left behind by Christian Eriksen – and Dele Alli is clearly not convincing his manager either having started just once in the Premier League.

Lo Celso and Ndombele have combined for only 11 assists since joining in summer 2019 – Eriksen got that number on his own in five of seven seasons at the club.

Sabitzer seems primed to take that role as he’s managed to deliver 19 goals and 14 assists since the start of 2019/20, per Transfermarkt.

Indeed, Leipzig boss Julian Naglesmann has lauded him as a “goal threat” from midfield and teammate Willi Orban believes he has “great shooting technique.”

He has also been praised for his “remarkable” personality by ex-coach Ralf Rangnick to Kicker (via Bulinews).

Forget Hojbjerg. Sabitzer could well become Levy’s best piece of business since Son, who has delivered 156 goal contributions in 254 appearances since costing £22m.
