Fiquei triste, mas procurei me firmar.

Mushfiqur says experience will help him improve

Mushfiqur Rahim, the Bangladesh wicketkeeper, is confident he will only improve with more exposure at the international level. Mushfiqur, who has largely been Bangladesh’s first-choice keeper after being picked ahead of Khaled Mashud for the 2007 World Cup, has missed a few catches behind the stumps on the current tour of South Africa but is confident his rhythm is improving.”It’s not so easy to keep in seaming and bouncy conditions but I’m not taking it as an excuse. There were a few regulation chances that I shouldn’t have missed,” Mushfiqur told the . Graeme Smith, who scored 157 in South Africa’s innings-and-129-run win in the first Test in Bloemfontein, was given a reprieve on 83 – he came down the track and was beaten by left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan, but Mushfiqur failed to collect the ball and effect the stumping.”It’s likely that top-class keepers miss sometimes. As a keeper I was initially nervous but now I am more comfortable and confident,” he said. “And I feel, day by day, my rhythm is getting better.”Mohammad Ashraful, the Bangladesh captain, highlighted the batsmen’s inability to cope with the bounce in South Africa as the reason behind the team’s poor showing after the first Test. “It’s really a new experience for all of us to play in South Africa,” Mushfiqur said. “It was really tough out there in the middle with the ball bouncing and swinging like anything. But the problem is that we rarely come across such deliveries on flat tracks at home.”Mushfiqur scored 89 in Bangladesh’s practice game before the Test, and offered some resistance with his 48 in the first innings in Bloemfontein. However, he is looking to improve his batting averages – it is below 20 in both Tests and ODIs. “I think someone’s average ultimately shows how good he is as a player. And my average in both one-day and Tests is hardly satisfying. I have a target to achieve an average of 40-plus in Test and 35 to 40 in one-day matches.”I’m trying to be consistent in my batting. I had a problem with gripping the bat and leaving the ball and worked on these in the Premier League [a domestic 50-over competition] and got the results. I scored few runs in the last few series but I have to play some long innings.”Mushfiqur’s nearest competitor for the keeper’s spot, Dhiman Ghosh, joined the ICL, but he said he cannot be complacent. “There is no scope to be relaxed in international cricket. It’s only a matter of time that an alternative will come if I fail to deliver,” he said. “I want to be an international figure and this is my ultimate goal. I am preparing myself to achieve the goal.” Mushfiqur had been dropped for a few ODI series this year, including the three-match series in Australia, but Ghosh’s signing with the unauthorised league saw him make a comeback for the recent home series against New Zealand.

Predicted West Ham XI vs Southampton

West Ham United return to Premier League action later this afternoon as David Moyes and his side look to continue their fine start to the 2021/22 season.

The Hammers are unbeaten through their first three league matches and now head to the south coast to face Southampton at St Mary’s.

Moyes and co were very busy in the transfer window after their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace last time out, so the Scot will have plenty of selection dilemmas to ponder, even more so as he has a fully-fit squad at his disposal.

With that in mind, what sort of line-up could we see today? Football FanCast delve into one potential XI…

Indeed, the Irons signed four new players in the transfer window and two could make their debuts here.

One of which is in goals, as loan arrival Alphonse Areola from Paris Saint-Germain replaces veteran Lukasz Fabianski between the sticks.

Football Insider claim that the 36-year-old will soon be phased out of the side to make way for the much younger shot-stopper in a bid to think about the long-term, rather than the immediate future. If Moyes is thinking like that, then he ought to just make the call now in order to get a proper look at the Frenchman.

The other debut is likely to be handed to Kurt Zouma, who replaces Craig Dawson in the starting line-up. After splashing a considerable amount (nearly £30m) on his signature, the Premier League and Champions League winner should come straight into the side, pairing with Angelo Ogbonna in the middle, with Vladimir Coufal and Aaron Cresswell on either flank.

Moyes is then likely to stick with the same players in midfield and attack, having kickstarted the campaign unbeaten, which means it’ll be Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice in the middle, with Pablo Fornals keeping his spot despite the arrival of Nikola Vlasic.

The Croatian playmaker may need a little more time to adapt to England, having only just arrived off the back of the international break, whereas Zouma should be a lot more comfortable.

It also means there’s no place for Alex Kral in the starting line-up, but you could expect him to be named on the bench.

Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen will join the £25.5m-rated Spanish “machine” in attacking midfield, with the Premier League’s top goalscorer Michail Antonio set to lead the line once again.

AND in other news, Moyes could fix alarming West Ham problem by unleashing 19 y/o gem who’s “on fire” – opinion

India, Sri Lanka in talks over tour

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are discussing the possibility of arranging a visit by the Indian team to Sri Lanka with the BCCI, sports minister Gamini Lokuge has confirmed

Cricinfo staff03-Jan-2009India are planning a series against Sri Lanka to compensate for the aborted tour of Pakistan. Officials of both national boards have confirmed they are in talks over the tour, which will take place sometime over the next couple of months – most likely between Sri Lanka’s current tour of Bangladesh and their trip to Pakistan, tentatively scheduled for the middle of February.”We are about 60% certain that we could arrange a series for the Sri Lanka team with India shortly,” Sri Lanka’s sports minister Gamini Lokuge told the . “We have had successful discussions with the Indian cricket board and at the moment we are finalising the schedule.”An Indian board official confirmed that negotiations with SLC are underway. “We are trying hard to recover losses the BCCI has incurred this year. There is a likelihood of Sri Lankaplaying at least three ODIs against India before their Pakistan tour,” the official said.India toured Sri Lanka last year for three Tests and five ODIs.Sri Lanka’s Pakistan tour has been subject to some uncertainty but Lokuge echoed comments from SLC chief executive Duleep Mendis that it was on. “We are confirming the cricket tour to Pakistan, there is no change in it,” he said. However, Sri Lanka have sought a shorter tour, which will help them accommodate the series against India. SLC had initially agreed to tour Pakistan – following India’s pullout -from January 20 for three Tests and fives ODIs.However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials said Sri Lanka later wanted it changed to a shortened tour of two Tests, three ODIs and a Twenty20 game from February 15. The new dates would, however, clash with Pakistan’s tour to Bangladesh, for which they depart on March 3.The revised dates are believed to be on the suggestion of Sri Lanka’s players, who wanted a break after their Bangladesh tour. It is not yet clear how they will react to the news of another series before the Pakistan tour.

West Ham: Wallace transfer claim emerges

West Ham United appear to be interested in signing Jed Wallace in 2022 after a very reliable source dropped a fresh claim on the situation…

What’s the word?

Over the weekend, Football League World reported that the Irons were among several top-flight clubs eyeing up a potential swoop for the 27-year-old Millwall attacker as he’s out of contract in the summer.

Club insider ExWHUemployee has now confirmed that he’s a player that the Hammers have looked at previously, also suggesting that these reports to have some substance.

On a recent episode of ‘The West Ham Way’ podcast, he revealed:

“Interesting[ly], there is a guy at Millwall. He’s 27 – Jed Wallace.

“I know that we’ve watched him in the past and the fact that outlets are reporting about our interest suggests that the interest is still there. So that will be an interesting one because his contract is up at the end of the season.”

Should they swoop?

After signing some big-name players for substantial transfer fees, this latest development may seem a little underwhelming. After all, they have just brought in Champions League and Premier League winner Kurt Zouma for £29.8m, as well as the playmaking Nikola Vlasic for a similar amount.

However, it’s a prospective signing which should leave much of the London Stadium faithful excited as the Hammers have enjoyed plenty of success when dipping their toes into the Championship.

You only have to look at the success of Aaron Cresswell, Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma and Michail Antonio to realise that.

Wallace would surely join them in that list eventually, given his undoubted and impressive ability.

The £6.3m-rated winger has already started the 2021/22 season on fire, scoring three goals and providing two assists in the Lions’ opening six league games, adding to his ten goals and eight assists in all competitions last term and ten goals and 12 assists in 2019/20, as per Transfermarkt.

Furthermore, as per WhoScored, he has averaged 1.9 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.5 dribbles every game since 2015/16, proving to be a mark of consistency in attack.

He’s a player who has been lauded as a “game-changer” by his current boss Gary Rowett as recently as August this year and you can never have enough players of this ilk to either start or come off the bench.

The fact that ExWHUemployee is confirming that the club have followed him in the past and is even suggesting that the interest still remains is a hugely encouraging sign heading into the January transfer window and beyond.

Wallace could well be available for a bargain given his contractual situation and if they’re willing to wait a little longer, he’ll be free to join for absolutely nothing, so it certainly seems like a low-risk signing for the Irons.

Therefore, the West Ham fanbase should be buzzing by this fresh claim.

AND in other news, Moyes must now axe his favourite from his West Ham starting XI…

Roberts: Hojbjerg is Tottenham’s "best midfield player"

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, former Tottenham defender Graham Roberts has hailed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as the “best midfield player” in Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Hojbjerg was signed by ex-Spurs boss Jose Mourinho last summer and managed to make a positive impact following his arrival from Southampton.

His impact was so good that it led to his team-mates and Mourinho himself calling him Zidane.

The Portuguese manager has obviously since left Tottenham, but that has not affected Hojbjerg. On WhoScored, the 26-year-old currently has an average match rating of 7.03 (Premier League only), only Son Heung-min (7.07) and Lucas Moura (7.09) have recorded better averages in Tottenham’s squad.

On Hojbjerg, Roberts simply said to FFC: “I think Hojbjerg is the best midfielder [at Tottenham].”

Last season, Hojbjerg averaged 2.6 tackles per game in the Premier League, the second-highest average in Spurs’ squad, so it is easy to see what he brings to the pitch.

After Harry Kane and Son, the Denmark international is arguably the north London club’s most valuable player.

The last couple of weeks have been disappointing for Hojbjerg and his team-mates, losing London derbies to Chelsea and Crystal Palace, 3-0 on both occasions.

But with the quality of the former Southampton man, Kane and Son, you would expect them to bounce back in the league soon.
