Tottenham Hotspur: Italian source shares big McKennie update

According to Italian sources, a major Tottenham Hotspur transfer update has come to light involving Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie.

The Lowdown: Spurs long-linked…

The Lilywhites have long been interested in the former Schlake star, according to reports, and you can trace links all the way back to 2020.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

McKennie, during his time in the Bundesliga, was allegedly turning Tottenham’s head before he opted to join Serie A powerhouses Juve instead.

Commenting at the time, former Spurs striker Darren Bent called the USA international a would-be ‘very Spursy signing’, and it appears the Premier League side’s interest hasn’t waned.

The Latest: Tottenham ready offer…

According to TuttoJuve, Spurs, and by extension their transfer chief Fabio Paratici are ‘ready to offer’ around €30 million (£26m) for his services this summer.

They also say the north Londoners are rethinking signing McKennie who is an ‘old passion’ for manager Antonio Conte.

The Verdict: Make it happen?

Conte apparently wants to sign two new midfielders this summer amid a plethora of other transfer demands and Juve’s ace may well be an astute option, even despite Bent’s Spursy comment.

While he is hardly an untouchable under Massimiliano Allegri, MLS correspondent and USA national team critic Chris Smith of 90min has drawn attention to his brilliant performances at international level.

The reporter has lavished praise on McKennie, branding the starlet a ‘pressing machine’ and ‘supremely underrated’ attacking threat for his country.

His young age indicates he may only get better, and for just £26m, the price tag would be a fairly reasonable one if Juventus agree to it.

The IPL player auction for the 2011 season will be held on January 8 and 9 in Mumbai, the league’s governing council has announced. The tournament itself will feature eight teams, playing 60 matches, and run from April 8 to May 22.Key IPL dates

November 27, 2010 – Kochi franchise deadline

January 8,9, 2011 – Player auction for IPL 2011

April 7, 2011 – Opening ceremony

April 8, 2011 – First match

May 22, 2011 – Final

The tournament, which begins a week after the World Cup ends, will involve each of the eight sides playing playing 14 games, adding up to 56 matches, the same as in previous IPL editions. The top two from the league rounds will then contest a play-off match, with the winner qualifying for the “Grand Final.” The teams that finish third and fourth in the league stage will contest the other play-off, and the winner of that game will play the defeated team from the first play-off to decide the second finalist. The auction is likely to be on the scale of the first one, held in 2008, with teams starting largely from scratch, and will be held under rules framed in September. One difference will be the absence of “icon” players – originally, five franchises had one player each named as its icon. The auction was initially to have been held this month but uncertainty over the composition of the tournament – with two franchises expelled and a third, Kochi, in limbo – forced a postponement. The governing council, which met in Mumbai on Wednesday, was expected to have discussed the status of the Kochi franchise but Rajiv Shukla, a BCCI vice-president and council member, said it did not figure. He did, however, reiterate that the 2011 season would have eight participating teams.Kochi have until November 27 to reply to the IPL’s notice asking it to set its house in order; if, as seems likely, the franchise owners decide to call it quits, the IPL will start the auction process for a replacement team. With a majority of the current franchises in the southern half of the country, any new franchise is likely to be from the north – Ahmedabad being the front-runner.The new auction rules governing player retention, which have been criticised by the franchises, allow a team to keep up to four players but at a steep price. The first player retained will cost a team $1.8 million against the salary cap of $9 million, regardless of the amount the player is actually paid. The second player will cost $1.3 million, the third $900,000 and the fourth $500,000.

– Vamos utilizar basicamente nossa equipe sub-20.

'Mumbai were complacent and arrogant' – Jaffer

Wasim Jaffer, the Mumbai captain, has admitted that his team were complacent and arrogant in their Ranji Trophy quarter-final loss to Rajasthan, who were promoted from the Plate League

ESPNcricinfo staff30-Dec-2010

There will be no smiles for Wasim Jaffer this Ranji season after Mumbai’s quarter-final exit against Rajasthan•ESPNcricinfo Ltd

Wasim Jaffer, the Mumbai captain, has admitted that his team were complacent and arrogant in their Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Rajasthan, who were promoted from the Plate League. Rajasthan knocked out the defending champions, bowling them out for 252 and then surging to 589 on the back of three centuries. Jaffer, however, denied that Mumbai had taken Rajasthan lightly. “It is very shocking indeed when I look back. They (Rajasthan) are professional players and have come up the hard way,” Jaffer told . “In fact they were on par with some of the Elite Division teams. But we never expected that this would happen. We were a bit complacent and arrogant too.”The conditions were helpful for the fast bowlers on the opening day, Jaffer said, and he felt that bowling first would have been the correct decision. Mumbai, however, opted to bat, and seamer Pankaj Singh ran through the line-up to skittle them out for a below-par score. “There are no ifs and buts. We have always batted first whenever we won the toss and we usually put up a big score. We don’t normally field first unless the pitch is really green. Even in last year’s final in Mysore, we batted first. But I would admit that we did not bat well and 250 certainly was not enough. We had recovered from tough situations before, but this time we couldn’t.”Jaffer blamed Mumbai’s early demise this season on his batsmen throwing away their wickets after getting starts. “You could see that throughout the tournament, runs were scored but then they were not converted into big scores. Against Railways, (Ajinkya) Rahane scored 94 but he did not see the team through, and the rest of the batsmen had to rescue us. In this match too, he and (Abhishek) Nayar scored 60, but they could not get big scores, which would have helped us. The lack of conversion was one of the reasons for our loss.”Despite the core players like Jaffer, Rahane, Nayar, Rohit Sharma, Ajit Agarkar, Iqbal Abdulla, and Ramesh Powar playing most games, Mumbai tried out 23 players in all during their eight Ranji games, and Jaffer felt that they lacked bench strength. “We don’t have suitable fast bowlers who can replace Dhawal (Kulkarni), Ajit or Aavishkar (Salvi) when they are injured. We also need to have a back-up of good spinners. Batting is another area where we need bench strength. Players have come in but none of them have impressed in the given opportunities. You have to at least score a hundred or a double to cement your place instead of 30s or 50s.”Not making even the semi-finals is a huge letdown for the 39-time champions, who take immense pride in their Ranji record, and Jaffer said that it hurt to be out of the tournament “so early.” “Every year our aim is to win the title, nothing less than that. Everyone was confident from the staff to the team management. But when you are playing the knockout stage you may have one bad session or bad day and you have to deal with that. However, we could not overcome that this time.”

ESPNcricinfo previews the first Twenty20 between New Zealand and Pakistan in Auckland

Nitin Sundar25-Dec-2010Match FactsWith Shahid Afridi, a truly spectacular innings is always around the corner•AFP

December 26, Auckland
Start time 14:00 (01:00 GMT)The Big PicturePakistan run into another team that is dealing with problems. Compared to the murkiness surrounding Pakistan’s cricket – spot-fixing investigations, an inefficient and politically incorrect board, a disappearing wicketkeeper – New Zealand’s winless woefulness may seem like a trifle.Yet, their recent travails in the subcontinent – where they failed to win any of their last 11 one-dayers and three Tests, spread across each of the three World Cup hosting countries – have left their tournament preparations in disarray, with very little time for new coach John Wright to turn things around. This series – on spongy, seaming tracks and small grounds – against a Pakistan team in its current state, presents New Zealand with less than ideal preparation for the big event, but it gives them a good shot at ending the slump.Pakistan don’t have the luxury of picking and choosing their venues anymore. Security concerns have prevented them from playing at home. This is Pakistan’s second visit to New Zealand in a year, a frequency rarely seen from Asian teams. They begin this tour at the Eden Park in Auckland, the venue that hosted the first ever Twenty20 international, almost six years ago. A lot has changed since that hit-and-giggle encounter, in which Australia and New Zealand sported retro costumes and outmoded facial hair. Three World Twenty20s have come and gone since, with Pakistan making the semi-finals on each occasion and winning the tournament once. This is the format they have always threatened to make their own; so despite their current four-match losing streak and all the other distractions, they come into the series with a dangerous reputation.Form guide(most recent first)
New Zealand: LWLWL
Pakistan: LLLLWWatch out for…It’s tough to leave Shahid Afridi out of this section, especially at the start of a series. There is a good chance he will succumb to a rush of blood and leave his backers infuriated, but with Afridi, truly explosive innings is always around the corner. He failed as an opener in Pakistan’s warm-up defeat, but his best innings in the format – the memorable half-centuries in the semi-final and final of the 2009 World Twenty20 – came at No. 3. Where is he going to take guard on Sunday?Daniel Vettori’s absence means Nathan McCullum will be New Zealand’s main spinner. His Twenty20 stats are impressive: a bowling average of 17.61 at an economy-rate of 6.45, to go with a batting average of 26.66. Pakistan have their share of aggressors in the middle order, and some of them – Umar Akmal in particular – are likely to target his offspin.Team newsBrendon McCullum’s absence gives Peter McGlashan another chance behind the stumps. McCullum will, however, be tougher to replace at the crease. Jesse Ryder should return to the opening spot after recovering from the injury he picked up in India, and he could have new-face Dean Brownlie for company. Adam Milne, the 18-year-old Central Districts seamer, could also get a game.New Zealand (probable): 1 Jesse Ryder, 2 Dean Brownlie, 3 Martin Guptill, 4 Ross Taylor (capt), 5 James Franklin, 6 Scott Styris, 7 Nathan McCullum, 8 Peter McGlashan (wk), 9 Kyle Mills, 10 Ian Butler / Adam Milne, 11 Tim SoutheeUmar Akmal kept wickets for Pakistan in the warm-up match, and could continue to keep his brother Adnan, the specialist keeper, on the bench. Ahmed Shehzad made a duck in that match, and could make way for Asad Shafiq.Pakistan (probable): 1 Asad Shafiq / Ahmed Shehzad, 2 Mohammad Hafeez, 3 Shahid Afridi (capt), 4 Younis Khan, 5 Umar Akmal (wk), 6 Fawad Alam, 7 Abdul Razzaq, 8 Umar Gul, 9 Wahab Riaz, 10 Saeed Ajmal, 11 Shoaib AkhtarPitch and conditionsThe match will be played at a reoriented Eden Park stadium, with a newly installed pitch running from north to south, with some of the lower tier seats retracted in order to fit the new boundary. Traditionally, the average 20-over score on this ground works out to 154 for 9, but things could be different on the new track.Stats and trivia Pakistan won the first four T20s between these sides, before losing by one run in a close encounter in the 2010 World Twenty20 Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal are the top three wicket-takers in the format. Fourth in the list is a man New Zealand would have loved to have for this series – Daniel Vettori The hosts will miss another player dearly – Brendon McCullum is the only player with over 1000 Twenty20 runs (1100 in all), and is the leading six-hitter in the format. Pakistan are without their top three run-getters – Kamran Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq and Shoaib Malik Two of the five Twenty20 games played at Eden Park have resulted in ties.Quotes”Coaching is not about telling or ordering. It’s more about helping create an environment where good players who want to learn can get on.”

Dudu vê Andrés tentando tirar a responsabilidade do Corinthians

– Ele (Andrés) está querendo tirar a responsabilidade do time dele.
