LFC fans call for Reds to sign Vlahovic

A number of Liverpool fans have been calling for the Reds to sign Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic following more brilliance over the weekend.

Jurgen Klopp’s men had an excruciating day at the office on Saturday, drawing 1-1 at home to Newcastle United. Mohamed Salah’s superb early strike suggested that it could be a comfortable afternoon for the Premier League champions, but poor finishing again proved fatal.

Joe Willock’s stoppage time effort saw Liverpool drop two more vital points in the top-four battle, with Champions League football now looking unlikely at Anfield next season.

The profligacy on show from the Reds suggested that a new striker needs to arrive this summer, with Vlahovic one of those who has been linked with a move.

The 21-year-old scored a Panenka-style penalty in his side’s 1-1 draw with Juventus on Sunday, taking his tally for the season to 17 Serie A goals in 29 starts.

These Liverpool supporters took to Twitter to call for Vlahovic to be a summer signing.

“Vlahovic up against Chiellini, De Ligt and Bonucci on his own for Fiorentina . Impressing me more and more every time I see him. Tentative links to LFC from some. Would be something completely different to any of our current attack. A powerful target man with a ferocious shot”

MCFC fans fume at Old Trafford postponement

Numerous Manchester City fans were absolutely livid after it was confirmed that Manchester United’s clash with Liverpool was to be postponed.

On Sunday, there was a possibility the Citizens could have been crowned champions – had Liverpool won, City would have been popping open the champagne. However, the match was delayed as thousands of Manchester United fans protested outside Old Trafford beforehand, with some even managing to make their way onto the pitch (BBC). Eventually, the game was postponed as safety could not be guaranteed.

The United fans in question were protesting against the Glazer family, who own the club, but a lot of City fans were far from happy about being denied the chance to clinch the title.

When the news was shared on Twitter by @City_Xtra, it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Ex-Everton star tells Toffees who to sign

Former Everton star Michael Ball has told Football FanCast that the club need more players like James Rodriguez if they are to be successful.

The Toffees managed to sign the Colombia international from Real Madrid last summer.

BBC Sport reported at the time that they paid around £12m to sign the playmaker and he has gone on to enjoy an excellent season for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

James has scored six goals and laid on nine assists in 25 games in all competitions, even though he has struggled with injuries.

Ball has enjoyed watching the former Bayern Munich star play for the Toffees but he is acutely aware that he cannot be relied upon to play 38 games a season in the Premier League.

As such, he has urged Everton to try to bring in more players of the same quality as Rodriguez as they look to take the next step and potentially qualify for Europe next season.

The Toffees’ loss to Aston Villa at the weekend, a game Rodriguez missed, has left them nine points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

Speaking exclusively to FFC, Ball said: “We know we can’t rely on James, who’s only been playing 60-70 minutes and he’s missed a lot of football games. So we need players like him to come to the football club if we want to start being successful.

“At the end of the day, it does cost a lot of money to bring these top quality players in.

“Yes, you’d like to bring your youth in as well but that does take time and I feel with Carlo coming to the football club, he wants to be winning yesterday, he wants players to come in straight away and to be successful.”

Rodriguez out for Everton vs West Ham

Many Everton fans have been left to fume as some early team news has emerged ahead of their game away at West Ham United in the Premier League.

Speaking in his pre-game press conference ahead of the match on Sunday afternoon, Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed (via Phil Kirkbride) that James Rodriguez will not be able to play any part in the fixture.

The former Real Madrid star is clearly a key player for the Goodison Park faithful, with no fewer than six goals and a further nine assists in 25 games in total over all competitions so far in the 2020/21 term (Transfermarkt), and his creativity and flair will be greatly missed as the Merseyside club look to chase European qualification for next season.

Rodriguez has already missed plenty of games for the Toffees through injury, and it seems as if several Blues are growing increasingly frustrated with him.

Celtic: Eddie Howe ‘heading to Celtic’

Eddie Howe will become the new permanent manager of Celtic, succeeding Neil Lennon as Hoops boss, according to talkSPORT.

The Lowdown: Howe waiting on staff?

Howe had verbally agreed on a move to Celtic Park back in early April, but it seems as if the 43-year-old will now finally be heading to Glasgow.

Reports in recent weeks appear to show that Howe is looking to bring some members of staff from his previous employers with him to Glasgow.

Scout Mark Burchill, along with coaches Simon Weatherstone and Stephen Purches were names mentioned, however, they are currently preparing for Bournemouth’s playoff ties against Brentford.

Should the Cherries progress to the final at Wembley, that would keep them occupied until the end of the month, however, it seems as if a deal for Howe is already in the bag.

The Latest: Howe heading to Celtic

talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, who covers Bournemouth and Southampton, was talking on the White and Jordan show on Wednesday.

He had this to say on Howe taking over at Celtic Park, admitting some of the 43-year-old’s backroom staff will come from the south coast.

“I’ve been told from very reliable sources that Eddie Howe is now heading to Celtic for the start of next season and is even starting to assemble his backroom team.

“Some of that backroom team will come from Bournemouth and one of the reasons for the delay is of course Bournemouth are part of the Championship play-offs, looking to get back into the Premier League, and that could hamper Eddie Howe’s chances of taking one or two of his former coaches with him to Glasgow.

“But Eddie Howe will be the new Celtic manager in time for the start of next season.”

The Verdict: Brilliant news for Desmond and McKay

In our opinion, this is great news for owner Dermot Desmond and new CEO Dominic McKay.

Desmond was the man who met Howe for talks in London back in April, and it seems as if Howe has been Desmond’s main target over the last six weeks, despite links to Roy Keane resurfacing.

It may also benefit McKay massively. With the Hoops having just one game left this season, plans for the 2021/22 campaign need to be pieced together as soon as possible, with a potentially major rebuild coming in the summer if the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Kris Ajer leave the club.

The longer the manager saga dragged on the more pressure it would heap on McKay, but with Howe looking likely to be the man in charge, all Celtic need now is a director of football in place so a Parkhead rebuild can really kick in.

Why Spurs must U-turn over Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris is set to remain at Spurs next season, according to emerging reports…

What’s the word?

Football Insider claim the 34-year-old captain is planning to extend his time at the club into a potential tenth year following talks with chairman Daniel Levy

The 123-time French international was facing an uncertain future in North London, where he has been since 2012. He has registered 371 appearances in the past nine years but will enter the final season of his current £100k-per-week contract this summer.

Lloris had been linked with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, where former manager Mauricio Pochettino is now in charge.

Time to go?

Levy must consider a U-turn on this decision as it is time for a new era at Tottenham.

Jose Mourinho was sacked a month ago and whilst the quest for a new manager rumbles on, one thing remains clear – the Lilywhites need a clear out.

Perhaps it is a little unfair to suggest but the same players who cost Pochettino his job, are the same ones that have ultimately seen the Portuguese out the door.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/spurs-managerial-latest-update-transfer-rumours-gossip” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, managerial gossip, transfer rumours and more!”]

This squad needs an overhaul, top to bottom, and there isn’t a better place to start than the longest-serving player and captain.

The 2014 World Cup winner has endured a slow and steady decline and has been at fault for several goals over the past 18 months or so. Defensive mistakes have been a recurring theme in Spurs’ season and that must be resolved under the new manager.

Last year, no other player had made more errors leading to a goal than Lloris since his arrival at Spurs, according to Sky Sports, whilst in 2018 he was dubbed a “liability” – and that hasn’t changed this term.

Lloris was described as “lettuce wrists,” “embarrassing” and as a “weak link” in this squad as recently as February following a goal-fest defeat to Everton in the FA Cup, with talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy urging him to move on this summer.

Spurs have been linked to many viable replacements, too, including relegated West Brom shot-stopper Sam Johnstone and England no.1 Nick Pope, so it’s not as if he’d be completely irreplaceable.

Levy must trackback over his stance on the £8m-rated star before he tarnishes his reputation with the Tottenham faithful even more.

AND in other news, Levy could secure Spurs their own Ramos by signing “formidable” £31.5m-rated “leader”…

Rodriguez out for Everton vs Man City

Many Everton fans have been left to bemoan some early team news ahead of their game away at Manchester City in the Premier League.

Speaking in his pre-game press conference ahead of the match against Pep Guardiola’s men, Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that James Rodriguez will not be able to play any part.

It is a fixture that has a lot riding on it for the Goodison Park faithful as they look to sneak in with a chance of European qualification on the final day, but they will have to do it without their creative influence in Rodriguez against the newly-crowned champions.

The former Real Madrid ace has missed a large number of games already for the Merseyside club with various injury problems, and it seems as if a lot of Toffees supporters are growing increasingly frustrated with him.

Everton fans on early Team News

These Blues bemoaned the early Team News as it was shared on Twitter, with one even going as far as to claim that they were ‘fed up’:

“Simply not good enough from Rodriguez. We need him for this game. Why is he out now? If injury fair enough but what’s the reason? Fatigue isn’t good enough. Play through for one game, this is important and the club is paying your wages.”

Lee Johnson must unleash Maguire vs Lincoln

Following a turgid team performance in Sunderland’s play-off semi-final first leg defeat earlier this week, Lee Johnson must unleash Chris Maguire in the reverse fixture this Saturday.

With the Black Cats’ season very much hanging in the balance after their 2-0 defeat against Lincoln City on Wednesday, Johnson’s side must simply go all-out at the Stadium of Light this afternoon if they are to have any chance of playing in the Championship next season.

Indeed, in the first leg, the 39-year-old Sunderland boss made the rather strange decision not to involve Chris Maguire over the course of the 90 minutes, something which appeared to backfire rather substantially considering they left the game scorelless.

However, Johnson must right this wrong on Saturday, as the 32-year-old has proven on countless occasions this season that he has the capability to be a game-changer for his side.

Having started a mere 11 League One games for the Black Cats this season – making a further 22 appearances from the bench – Maguire has nevertheless returned an impressive haul of five goals and five assists, as well as creating seven big chances for his teammates.

What makes these returns all the more impressive is that the forward’s goal involvements have often come at crucial moments, such as restoring his side’s lead in an eventual 3-1 win over Plymouth Argyle, setting up Charlie Wyke’s winner in a 1-0 victory against Swindon Town and scoring a 97th-minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Crewe Alexandra.

The man who Jack Ross labelled an “enigma” has very much shown that he is a man for the big occasion, and occasions do not come much bigger than having to overturn a 2-0 deficit in a play-off semi-final to save your season.

As such, Johnson simply must unleash the £4,400-per-week forward on Saturday in order to give his side the best possible chance of avoiding yet another season in the third tier of English football.

Man Utd set to sign Tom Heaton

Manchester United are reportedly set to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton on a free transfer in the coming weeks, meaning mass changes could occur at Old Trafford this summer.

What’s the story?

According to well-known journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 35-year-old shot-stopper is set to re-join his boyhood club after a disappointing spell at Villa Park.

Romano claims that Heaton is scheduled to undergo a medical with the Old Trafford outfit before signing a contract until 2023 with the option of a one-year extension.

De Gea needs to watch out

United’s goalkeeping conundrum has rumbled on for several seasons now, with David de Gea’s steady decline since the 2018 World Cup causing several major talking points.

The Spain international has made multiple high-profile mistakes between the sticks for the 20-time English champions over the last few campaigns, and the emergence of Dean Henderson has only served to add more cause for debate.

De Gea returned to his homeland for personal reasons midway through 2020/21, meaning the young keeper had a chance to impress between in the starting XI week in week out.

However, Henderson failed to take his chance, making a string of errors, including a horrendous performance against United’s bitter rivals Liverpool.

With the Red Devils looking to regain their spot at the summit of the Premier League, addressing their goalkeeping problem is expected to be high up on Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s priority list this summer, and the potential arrival of Heaton could spell bad news for their current crop of keepers.

The Villa man is highly unlikely to come in and be United’s No.1, given he spent the entire 2020/21 campaign playing understudy to Emiliano Martinez, but his addition will leave Solksjaer with four shot-stoppers to choose from.

Sergio Romero is set to depart, while the £19.8 million rated De Gea (as per Transfermarkt) and England international Henderson will either fight it out to be first-choice, or both face the axe, leaving to door open for a new, top-quality goalkeeper to make his mark at Old Trafford.

It could bring an end to De Gea’s ten-year stay at United, where he’s won one Premier League title, one FA Cup, one League Cup and a Europa League crown, and mark a new chapter in the club’s eventful goalkeeping history.

By bringing in Heaton, United now have an adequate backup goalkeeper to Henderson if they do decide to move on from De Gea, and after his recent performances, that would not come as a shock at all.

Lincoln make offer to Jordan Graham

Lincoln have reportedly made a move to sign “interesting” Gillingham attacker Jordan Graham on a free transfer this summer.

What’s the talk?

According to Football League World, Lincoln have taken a step above their rivals in the race to sign the 26-year-old in the upcoming transfer window. He is out of contract at the end of the month and has decided to move on from Gillingham, opening him up as a free agent target for the Imps.

The report claims that Lincoln have been in talks with Graham and have now made an offer for his services as they attempt to snap him up before other clubs have a chance to do so. Their League One rivals Charlton, plus Championship side Birmingham, are also said to be keen on the 26-year-old but are both yet to make their own proposals to him.

Speaking about Graham during his time at Wolves, Kenny Jackett labeled the attacker an “interesting” player. He told the Express and Star: “He’s been an interesting player for me during the course of this season.

“I think the loan has helped him, as it has other players that have come into the side. It’s given him some confidence and we’ve seen a difference in him training since he’s come back. Cloud nine for Lincoln fans

This news will surely leave Lincoln fans on cloud nine. Brennan Johnson enjoyed a brilliant season with the Imps on loan from Nottingham Forest, and his departure could leave a gigantic hole to fill in Appleton’s squad. There has been nothing to suggest that he will be returning for a second loan spell, which means that there could be a berth out wide to be filled in the upcoming transfer window, and that could be where Graham comes in.

Lincoln fans may be upset at the prospect of Johnson not playing for the club next season, but Graham could arrive at the LNER Stadium and propel them to the Championship. The 20-year-old was directly involved in 16 goals in 41 League One starts for Lincoln, with 11 goals and five assists, which is why the signing of Graham could be so crucial for the club as that is a huge contribution from a wide player.

The 26-year-old was directly involved in 18 goals in 36 League One starts for Gillingham throughout the campaign, with 12 goals and six assists. Therefore, he could be a slight upgrade on Johnson, as he contributed to more goals despite starting fewer games than the Forest loanee.

The £2,100-per-week ace could be a fantastic signing for Lincoln. Graham has proven to be a quality player at League One level, and the Imps could land a terrific deal if they can bring him in on a free transfer next month.
