West Ham plot bid for Armando Broja

West Ham are plotting a bid for on-loan Southampton striker Armando Broja in the summer transfer window.

What’s the word?

According to The Sun, the east London club are reportedly interested in signing the 20-year-old from Chelsea at the end of the season when his loan deal with the Saints expires.

Southampton could be challengers to West Ham in order to sign Broja, but if David Moyes guides the Hammers back into Europe for 2022/23, then it could be a straightforward choice for the Albanian.

Moyes urgently needs another centre forward

Despite an excellent season so far, with the Irons failing just short of the Europa League final and still in the hunt for a European berth next season, Moyes needs to bolster his attacking options for the upcoming campaign.

With Michail Antonio being West Ham’s only natural centre-forward, it’s paramount that the search for a new striker is acted upon sooner rather than later.

Moyes was suitably impressed by Broja when the 20-year-old faced the Hammers this season, scoring against them in the FA Cup to knock West Ham out of the tournament.

The £16.2m-rated striker has scored nine goals in 36 appearances this season,  and he could well be a great heir to Antonio at the London Stadium in the future.

The Jamaica international is 32 and has had an indifferent season, failing to score in the Premier League in 2022 despite netting six times in his opening eight matches of the campaign.

West Ham can’t keep relying on Antonio, especially when he is going through a tough run of form. With Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl dubbing Broja “dangerous”, this should tell Moyes all he has to know about the enormous potential that the 20-year-old can boast.

Newcastle eye Burnley defender Tarkowski

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) Public Investment Fund (PIF) are reportedly now favourites to sign James Tarkowski for Newcastle United this summer.

The Lowdown: Many admirers

The Burnley defender certainly has plenty of admirers, with both West Ham United and Everton also reportedly interested in his signature.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/newcastle-news-6/” title=”Newcastle news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

He is out of contract at Turf Moor in the summer and can therefore be signed on a free transfer once it expires.

The Latest: Newcastle favourites for Tarkowski

Writing in his latest piece for The Chronicle, Lee Ryder has reported that Newcastle may have ‘nudged ahead’ in the race to sign Tarkowski, as West Ham have cooled their interest.

The journalist states that it could be the ‘perfect deal’ for the Magpies, given that he would come for free and they could offer him more in wages.

The Verdict: No-brainer

It really is a no-brainer for the Tyneside outfit to try and bring Tarkowski to St James’ Park on a free transfer.

Once dubbed ‘outstanding’ by his former Clarets manager Sean Dyche, the Mancunian would offer Eddie Howe another solid option in the centre of defence, and he is in his prime at 29 years of age.

The Englishman also has valuable Premier League experience and know-how, so he should be able to settle in fairly quickly at Newcastle should he make the move to the northeast.

Tottenham: ESPN source drops five-word Dybala update

ESPN broadcaster Christian Martin has a five-word update for Tottenham Hotspur supporters amid the club’s links to Juventus forward Paulo Dybala.

The Lowdown: Spurs in the mix?

Spurs could take to the free agent market this summer in a bid to back manager Antonio Conte with his desired upgrades for the 2022/2023 Premier League season.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Italian is on the cusp of guiding his side to a Champions League qualification place with just one point needed against the already-relegated Norwich this Sunday.

Few would’ve envisaged this stunning turnaround after the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo late last year and it’s safe to say there is plenty of cause to be positive at Hotspur Way.

The upcoming transfer window is set to be a very interesting one given Conte’s alleged major demands behind-the-scenes with a real N17 overhaul on the cards, according to reports.

One man who has been linked with a move to north London is Juve star Dybala who looks set to leave Turin on a Bosman deal, and as per Martin of ESPN, there’s been a development involving Spurs.

The Latest: Lilywhites ‘go’ for Dybala…

According to the broadcaster, the Lilywhites and transfer chief Fabio Paratici by extension are now pushing to sign the Argentine.

Martin, dropping a five-word message on Twitter in the last 24 hours, explained:

“Tottenham go for Paulo Dybala.”

The Verdict: Promising…

The 28-year-old is a proven Serie A star having racked up 98 goals and 51 assists during his time in the Italian top flight (Transfermarkt).

Still in his prime, Dybala has impressed this season under Massimiliano Allegri with 15 goals and six assists in all competitions.

His versatility across the forward line, having experience in a variety of attacking roles both out wide and through the middle, could also back exactly why he appeals to Conte and Paratici.

The fact Spurs could sign him for zero transfer cost is a big incentive to move and we believe this update comes as a promising one.

Pundit Paddy Kenny, speaking to Football Insider recently, called Dybala a would-be ‘statement’ signing and we’re inclined to agree given his real pedigree and experience at the top level.

Aston Villa: James Tarkowski unlikely to join

Aston Villa are now unlikely to sign James Tarkowski on a free transfer, with Everton leading the race for his services, according to The Telegraph.

The Lowdown: Carlos deal

The club haven’t wasted any time in backing Steven Gerrard ahead of his first full season in charge. A permanent move for Philippe Coutinho has already been wrapped up, as has a deal for midfielder Boubacar Kamara, who will officially become a Villa player when his Marseille contract expires at the end of June.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/aston-villa-latest-updates-2/” title=”Aston Villa latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Villa have also reached an agreement with Sevilla for Diego Carlos, but it looks as if NSWE are now set to receive their first transfer blow of the summer with an update on Tarkowski.

The Latest: Tarkowski update

Sky Sports revealed in the week that Villa held talks with the Burnley star ahead of a possible move.

Reports even suggested that Gerrard was desperate for the club to get a move over the line, believing there isn’t a better deal to be struck all summer for the soon to be free agent due to his Premier League experience.

However, The Telegraph have now stated that a move to Villa Park is unlikely, with Everton leading the race for the 29-year-old’s signature.

The Verdict: Gomez or Bassey?

Although Carlos looks set to arrive, it wouldn’t come as a shock if Gerrard wanted further centre-back reinforcements over the summer, especially as they are now set to miss out on Tarkowski.

The futures of Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa are reportedly up in the air, so should one depart, Villa would still be left with four senior options.

Liverpool’s Joe Gomez has been a long-term target for Villa, so perhaps the club will look to explore a potential deal once again with Gerrard currently out in Paris for the Reds’ Champions League final.

Rangers defender Calvin Bassey is another rumoured target, and after his impressive end to the season for the Scottish giants, he too could be one to watch.

Liverpool held talks over Mbappe move

Liverpool could lose Sadio Mane this summer but they may well have had his replacement already lined up if a mega-money deal went their way.

What’s the word?

James Pearce’s latest column for The Athletic this week revealed some interesting transfer lines with the Reds supposedly shortlisting Jarrod Bowen and Jonathan David ahead of possible summer moves.

However, the most intriguing line from Pearce was a swift mention of a certain Kylian Mbappe.

The Frenchman’s contractual situation at PSG had been a controversial saga but it is finally put to bed now with Mbappe eventually turning down Real Madrid and signing a new deal.

That said, he could have ended up at Anfield. Pearce wrote: “Senior Anfield figures held talks over a potential free-agent deal for Kylian Mbappe earlier this year but it soon became clear that they just couldn’t make the numbers work financially.

“It became a straight shootout between staying at Paris Saint-Germain and joining Real Madrid after his contract expired. The France international opted for the former.”

Surprising news

There have been murmurs beneath the surface of potential interest from Liverpool in Mbappe for a while now.

The World Cup winner has admitted his intrigue with the Merseysiders before, calling them a “machine” but to hear that there was genuinely a move to try and get a deal done from a reputable source will surprise the entire fanbase at Anfield.

FSG haven’t spent a great deal in recent years with the only signing last summer being that of Ibrahima Konate.

The only acquisition in January, meanwhile, was attacking star Luis Diaz. That move, however, was fast-tracked due to interest from other parties.

Therefore, the arrival of Mbappe with Mane and Mo Salah’s futures with Liverpool uncertain would have been quite the coup.

Their title rivals in Manchester City have already signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund and this is a swoop that would have usurped that considering his talents.

Valued at a staggering £213m by CIES, he is one of the best footballers on the planet having beaten the goalkeeper on 171 occasions in 217 outings for PSG.

39 of those goals came this season as he ran riot in the French top-flight throughout 2021/22. With that in mind, the arrival of Mr Mbappe in England would have been greeted with much fanfare.

It will come as no surprise that the finances were wrong for Liverpool but it is a shock that they even explored a move in the first place.

Perhaps Jurgen Klopp’s side will see this as one that got away in a year’s time.

Sunderland must sign Jobe Bellingham

Sunderland are plotting a summer move for Birmingham City attacking midfielder Jobe Bellingham, and he could be vital to their survival in the Championship next season.

Footballer Ron-Thorben Hoffmann recently told Kicker (via The Chronicle) that his friend’s son was sat near ‘Bellingham’ at the play off final between The Black Cats and Wycombe Wanderers.

It comes after The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that the Wearsiders were interested in signing the midfielder.

Sunderland went on to win the play-off final 2-0 and secure a long-awaited return to the Championship. Next season they will face a battle to stay in the division and Alex Neil needs to build a strong side.

Bellingham is a player that could help massively and the sporting director at The Stadium of Light was at Birmingham for his brother Jude’s rise to stardom. Therefore, he already has a good relationship with their parents.

This could give Sunderland the upper hand in any race to sign the 16-year-old and reports earlier this year claimed they were invited to watch a game on Wearside.

Jobe has made two appearances in the Championship this season, which is impressive at his age. He has played most of his games in the U18 Premier League for the club, where he’s scored five goals in ten appearances.

A move to the North East could give him the chance to get more regular game time and develop in an academy that is well known for producing top talents.

Premier League midfielder and Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is just one of the names that has come through the youth academy at Sunderland and by signing him, the club could unearth their new version of the experienced midfielder.

Manager Alex Neil also has a history of giving youngsters a chance, in January he re-called on-loan goalkeeper Anthony Patterson and he has since started most games for the club.

Bellingham is rated at £450k but given his level his potential it’s likely they would need to pay more to secure his services. He’s been described as an “exciting talent” by former pro Paul Robinson.

A player like him is exactly what Sunderland need next season. If they do find themselves in a battle for survival then someone like Bellingham, who his hungry to prove himself, will help them stay up.

They’ll just have to hope that like Henderson, his spell in the first team isn’t a fleeting one.

Spurs: Gold drops Weston McKennie update

Alasdair Gold has dropped an update on reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Weston McKennie.

What’s the latest?

In a recent Q&A on football.london, the journalist revealed that, following a number of recent reports linking Tottenham with a move for the Juventus central midfielder, Fabio Paratici has already held talks with the 23-year-old’s representatives regarding a move to north London this summer.

The Spurs correspondent went on to state that, if the USA international is available in the summer market, he would expect Tottenham to test the water with the Serie A side concerning a deal for the midfielder, as McKennie ticks a lot of the boxes Antonio Conte is looking for in the middle of the park.

In response to a question asking whether Spurs are keen on the former FC Schalke 04 starlet, Gold said: “I know Paratici spoke to McKennie’s representatives about a future move in January. If the USA international is available this summer then I would expect Spurs to test the water as he would tick a lot of boxes for the squad.”

Supporters will love Gold’s claim

With the signing of a new central midfielder reported to be one of Conte’s priority targets in the summer transfer window, it is easy to see why Paratici would be interested in a move for McKennie ahead of Tottenham’s 2022/23 campaign.

As Gold states, the £43m-rated man would appear to tick a lot of the boxes required for Spurs, with the 23-year-old very much appearing to be the attack-minded, versatile and dynamic midfielder the 52-year-old Italian is looking to bring into the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

Indeed, FBref data illiterates just how forward-thinking the £37k-per-week American is, with McKennie ranking in the top 14% of midfielders in Europe’s big five leagues for non-penalty goals per 90, as well as the top 5% for npxG, the top 14% for shots, the top 2% for touches in the opposition penalty area and the top 2% for progressive passes received over the last 365 days.

FBref statistics also highlight the 32-time capped international’s impressive work rate in a defensive capacity, with the tireless talent ranking in the top 1% of attacking midfielders for clearances per 90, in addition to the top 4% for interceptions, the top 8% for aerial duels won, the top 10% for blocks, the top 16% for tackles and the top 40% for pressures over the last 12 months.

As such, it would indeed seem as if McKennie boasts something of a perfect profile for the box to box midfielder Conte is hoping to add to his Tottenham ranks in the coming months, and, with the 23-year-old reportedly available for as little as €20m (£17m) this summer, it is no surprise that Paratici is also keen on a move for the Juventus centrocampista.

Everton: Ornstein gives Richarlison update

Everton could be facing the prospect of life without Richarlison next term, following a worrying update from journalist David Ornstein.

What’s the word?

Writing on Twitter, the respected insider revealed that the Brazilian gem is the subject of interest from fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, with sources close to the Merseyside outfit believing that a deal could well happen.

Amid speculation over the 25-year-old’s future at Goodison Park, Ornstein has revealed that north London could well be his next destination: “Tottenham interested in signing Richarlison. No bid yet – will only do it at right price + have other options. Everton want more than reported €60m but need for funds likely to reduce fee + some close to #EFC think #THFC move will happen.”

In his attached piece for The Athletic, the transfer guru added that the Toffees may be inclined to sell due to a need to raise funds, although Spurs are yet to make a concrete offer for his services.

Lampard will be fuming

After having clinched top-flight survival by the skin of their teeth in the penultimate game of last term, Frank Lampard and co would have been hoping to put that gruelling campaign behind them and kick on in the 2022/23 season, although this latest news will no doubt throw a spanner in the works.

While perhaps not unexpected – with the former Watford man having long been linked with a departure – that will do little to soften the blow, with the club having been so reliant on the £45m-rated gem in recent years.

The 2021/22 campaign saw the 36-cap international help to steer Lampard’s men away from danger with ten goals and five assists in 30 league games, having largely shouldered the goalscoring burden alone following Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s dismal, injury-hit season.

Since joining Everton from Vicarage Road on a £50m deal back in 2018, Richarlison has gone on to score 53 goals and supply 14 assists in 152 games across all competitions, with only six players having scored more league goals for the club in the Premier League era.

There may be a small silver lining that the Toffees can rake in a fairly sizeable fee with any sale, although as they have proved under the Farhad Moshiri regime, the club have rarely invested wisely in the transfer market.

Those at Finch Farm will seemingly be powerless to prevent a departure – with just two years remaining on the player’s contract – with the one-time Fluminese man seemingly craving Champions League football, something that Antonio Conte’s side can offer.

At present, Everton are a world away from mixing it with Europe’s elite, with the versatile forward’s exit only set to widen the gap between themselves and the top six.

As for Lampard, the former Chelsea boss may only be a few months into his tenure at the club, although will be acutely aware of the scale of the job at hand, with losing a player of such importance and quality only set to be another unwanted headache.

The Englishman will no doubt be fuming if he is forced to head into next term without his key asset in tow, having previously lavished him with praise for his “work ethic” and labelled him a “pleasure” to coach earlier this term.

It appears that he may not be coaching the player for much longer…

AND in other news – “Interested…”: Insider drops big Everton transfer update, supporters will be buzzing

Everton’s main transfer priority revealed

There seems no doubt that Everton are desperate to make improvements to their squad following a difficult relegation fight last season in the Premier League, and a reliable source has now revealed an update on Frank Lampard’s transfer window intentions.

What’s the latest?

Daily Star journalist Paul Brown has given an update on the Toffees’ transfer priorities following the imminent confirmation of James Tarkowski’s signing.

Brown has told GIVEMESPORT about Lampard’s transfer plans: “It may depend on who they sell or who they’re forced to sell. Certainly, they look a bit light in the forward areas. I think his main priority seems to be in midfield after getting Tarkowski over the line.”

Supporters will be excited

After a disappointing season and the departures of Donny Van de Beek and Fabian Delph from Goodison Park, Everton supporters will surely be excited to hear that Lampard is prioritising adding depth and fresh bodies to the centre of the pitch this summer.

Current Toffees midfielder Allan has also been linked with a move away from Merseyside this summer, so Lampard and the club’s powerbrokers will need to work hard to identify talented players who can make an instant impact on the team in midfield.

It was reported that the manager already has a three-man shortlist to add depth and quality to the midfield, with Billy Gilmour, Harry Winks and Conor Gallagher all named as players who Lampard would like to bring in this summer.

Gallagher has proven that he is capable of being a great midfield asset following his season-long loan spell at Crystal Palace, scoring eight goals and contributing five assists, although it is believed that Thomas Tuchel is keen to keep hold of the Chelsea youngster for the 2022/23 season at Stamford Bridge.

Winks appears to be a much more realistic midfield transfer target who could move to Goodison Park this summer, after it was reported that Tottenham would be prepared to offer the player as part of a deal to sign Everton winger Richarlison.

With that being said, Lampard must look at his options closely and start making moves for midfielders in the transfer market to ensure that he is not caught short next season without depth in the engine room.

Otherwise, it could quickly turn into a similar story as 2021/22 for the Toffees, something that everyone involved in the club will be desperate to avoid.

Newcastle must land Richarlison

The summer transfer window is now well underway and Newcastle have bolstered their squad with the signings of Matt Targett and Nick Pope.

Journalist Ben Jacobs recently told The Football Terrace that the Magpies are one of the clubs who are keen on a deal to sign Richarlison from Everton, as PIF plot a swoop for the Premier League striker.

Jacobs said: “[He is] a player that is available in the market. And there’s a few clubs currently looking at him. Newcastle United are considering a swoop as well if they don’t get Ekitike.”

However, it remains to be seen whether or not the Magpies will now firm up their interest with an offer for the £50m star, after the news that they are set to back out of a deal for the Reims attacker.

Big Saint-Maximin upgrade

It has been reported that Newcastle may look to cash in on Allan Saint-Maximin in order to bolster their squad this summer.

A number of Premier League clubs are said to be keen on the French winger, who is valued at £40m, and his head has reportedly been turned by the prospect of raking in a hefty wage increase by moving to another club.

PIF can now seal a masterstroke by selling Saint-Maximin and replacing him with Richarlison, as the Toffees talisman would be a big upgrade on the dynamic Magpies winger.

Both players are capable of playing out wide on the left or through the middle, but the former Watford man has had far more joy in the final third.

Current Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, who worked with the Brazilian at Everton, previously lauded the player’s ability, saying: “Richarlison is a modern striker, a complete striker, because he works really hard. His physical statistics are really high, like a midfielder – but he has speed and he is really clinical in the box.

“He is fantastic with the head and clinical in front of the goalkeeper and his movement without the ball is really good.”

The 25-year-old scored 17 goals and provided eight assists, along with creating 11 ‘big chances’, in the last two Premier League campaigns combined, showing that he has the quality to make a big impact at the top of the pitch.

Meanwhile, Saint-Maximin produced just eight goals and nine assists and created 13 ‘big chances for the Magpies in that time.

This shows that they are similar in terms of how much they create chances for their team-mates, but Richarlison offers a far greater goal threat.

Therefore, Newcastle can land a big upgrade on their current number 10 by bringing in a player who can make a bigger impact in front goal in the top flight next season, with the duo’s respective statistics showing that the Toffees star is the superior player.
