Tottenham must unleash Ryan Sessegnon

Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur side will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Brighton as they take on Brentford today.

Spurs take on the Bees in the evening kick-off in the Premier League as they continue their march towards sealing a top-four finish in the division.

They are currently above their rivals Arsenal on goal difference and three points clear of sixth-placed Manchester United, as Conte has his team sitting in fourth in the table as it stands.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-martinez-dybala-spence-conte-2” title= “Read the latest Spurs news!”]

The Italian head coach may look to freshen his side up after their loss to Graham Potter’s men and one player he must finally unleash from the start is Ryan Sessegnon at wing-back.

Sergio Reguilon endured a rough afternoon against Brighton and could do with a match on the sidelines. As per SofaScore, he only completed 63% of his attempted passes, failed with 100% of his dribbles and only made one tackle throughout the match – failing to make a single interception or clearance.

This suggests that it could be time for Conte to switch it up at the back and unleash Sessegnon after over a month out through injury.

Prior to his setback against Everton, the 21-year-old was starting to shine on the left. Against Burnley, he recorded a SofaScore rating of 6.9 as he completed 100% of his dribbles, 91% of his passes and created one chance. He also made two tackles, two clearances and one interception as he showed that he can impress at both ends of the pitch.

Sessegnon carried that form over into his next game as he started against Leeds. As per SofaScore, he completed 81% of his passes and created two chances, with one resulting in him recording an assist, whilst he also made two interceptions and one tackle.

The dynamo was once dubbed a “big talent” by former Fulham teammate Stefan Johansen and Jose Mourinho previously called him “absolutely fantastic” as he compared him with Ashley Cole. This shows how highly he has been rated in the past and that is why Spurs must throw him another bone in the Premier League this week.

Therefore, he must be unleashed from the start at wing-back in order to give him the chance to show that he can be an important player for the team, as he did against Burnley and Leeds. It will allow Conte to rest Reguilon and avoid overplaying the Spaniard, whilst also keeping Sessegnon fresh and match fit.

Everton manager news on Dyche

Transfer insider Dean Jones has now dropped a big Everton manager claim involving Sean Dyche.

The Lowdown: Lampard under pressure

Frank Lampard is under huge pressure to guide the Goodison Park faithful to survival in the Premier League, as they currently find themselves lurking in the relegation zone, although with a game in hand on Dyche’s former club.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-4/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Merseyside club reportedly have the option to part ways with Lampard at the end of the season, and could look to act on that if they were to go down to the Championship.

The Latest: Dyche talk

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has now shared ‘talk’ of Dyche potentially succeeding Lampard at the Toffees, but feels the Burnley icon would not ‘fit the mould’ for what they are looking for:

“I see people are starting to talk about Sean Dyche as a potential option for Everton. Typically, he wouldn’t really fit the mould.

“Moshiri likes to be ambitious and go for managers of profile and a certain elegance when it comes to the Premier League and world football status.”

The Verdict: Keep the faith

The manager situation will be a matter of waiting until the end of the campaign to see whether Lampard can keep them up, and if he does, the board should really keep the faith for next term.

There is no doubt that Dyche is a quality manager, having kept Burnley up for five straight seasons in the Premier League, including one seventh-placed finish (Transfermarkt).

However, Lampard needs to be given time to implement his ideas and bring in his own players to the club, so if the Blues were to stay up, then he should be given next season as well.

CPFC looking to sign Carter-Vickers

Crystal Palace are amongst the Premier League clubs interested in signing Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.

What’s the story?

That’s according to 90min journalist Matt O’Connor-Simpson, who tweeted: “Cameron Carter-Vickers is attracting plenty of interest. Fulham & Southampton are the latest to join the race but the likes of Crystal Palace, West Ham & Wolves are looking too.”

The 24-year-old centre-back has spent this season on loan at Scottish giants Celtic and appears to have no future at Tottenham under Antonio Conte.

Previous reports claim he could cost in the region of £10m.

Palace should sign Carter-Vickers

At least one centre-back must be on Patrick Vieira’s transfer list this summer with both James Tomkins and Jaroslaw Jak’s respective contracts set to expire next month.

Moreover, 21-year-old Nathan Ferguson could be a player that the south London outfit look to cash in on this transfer window with the defender’s current deal set to expire next summer.

The signings of Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen have proven to be shrewd with the duo amounting to a combined 74 appearances across all competitions this term.

Defensively, Vieira’s men have been decent, conceding 42 goals in 35 matches in the Premier League at a rate of 1.2 a game, with only seven other sides boasting the same or better records.

However, adding depth at the back to the Eagles squad is vital.

Carter-Vickers has enjoyed a successful loan spell in Glasgow, with Chris Sutton describing one of the defender’s Old Firm performances as “immense.”

The £20k-per-week USA international has made 42 appearances for the Hoops and looks set to lift the Scottish Premiership title with Celtic boasting a six-point advantage over fierce rivals Rangers at the summit of the Scottish top-flight.

However, whether the 24-year-old is good enough to become a regular at Selhurst Park is yet to be seen, particularly after strong seasons from Guehi and Andersen.

Although, if the American was to shift one of the two centre-backs out of the starting line up it would most likely be Andersen.

The Dane has averaged a match rating of 6.89/10 this term whilst his English teammate has achieved a rating of 7.03 whilst also captaining Palace on occasion and making his senior England debut in March.

Therefore, if Carter-Vickers is to join Crystal Palace as a regular first-team player, it could be bad news for Andersen.

Rangers receive pre-Dundee United boost

Rangers stand on the verge of making history this season, with a place in the Europa League final confirmed on Thursday and a Scottish Cup final to anticipate also.

Thoughts turned swiftly to the Premiership campaign following Thursday night’s special win in Europe, and while not yet mathematically confirmed, it seems inevitable that the Gers’ Glasgow arch-rivals will be holding the league trophy aloft come the end of the season.

Dundee United travel to Ibrox on Sunday to face the Light Blues, and given the current state of affairs in the league, the home side could afford to rest a few bodies ahead of a monumental couple of weeks for the club.

Boost for Van Bronckhorst

Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Rangers have nonetheless received a boost, with Tangerines manager Tam Courts revealing that Marc McNulty will miss the rest of the season due to suffering an injury in his team’s win over Motherwell last weekend.

The 40-year-old said of the striker: “We have just got the scan results back so I don’t know the full extent but I know enough to suggest that his season is over.”

With Dundee United chasing a European place, this is a massive blow for them, whilst boosting the Gers’ hopes of victory tomorrow.

While McNulty’s scoring rate this season hasn’t been prolific, he had netted twice in his previous eight matches before injury struck.

He missed the middle chunk of the campaign due to a hamstring injury and has played his last game for the Tangerines before he returns to parent club Reading at the end of the season.

Rangers will still face a Dundee United side who are looking to earn a spot in Europe next season, but without McNulty as a focal point, it could be a slightly easier day for the likes of Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun at the back for the Gers, which will leave Van Bronckhorst buzzing.

Liverpool update on Carvalho revealed

Liverpool suffered a major blow to their transfer plans back in January when their deal to sign Fabio Carvalho fell through on Deadline Day in the very last moments, but now there has been a huge update that will surely excite supporters.

What’s the latest?

Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has given an update (via Caught Offside) on Liverpool’s signing of Fabio Carvalho and their intentions for the player when he arrives at Anfield.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Romano told the sports news outlet:

“By the way, the first signing will be Fabio Carvalho: the official announcement is coming in the next few days, Fulham will receive £5m plus £2.7m add-ons.

“Liverpool want to keep him in the first team, a loan is not planned as of now.”

Supporters will be elated

Supporters of the Merseyside club will be elated that an update has finally been given on the attacking midfielder, as the transfer has been long-awaited and highly anticipated since it fell through four months ago.

It was rumoured that the 19-year-old would be put back out on loan but supporters will also be glad to hear that the youngster will be given his opportunity to break into the team at Anfield if Romano’s update is to be believed.

Fulham have recently earned automatic promotion from the Championship after finishing top of the league at the end of the season, and to say Carvalho has played a crucial part in their achievement is an understatement.

According to SofaScore, the young attacker has scored ten goals and contributed eight assists, with an impressive 13 big chances created, making 1.7 key passes, 2.2 shots on goal and 1.1 tackles on average per game and has been successful in the majority of his dribbles (53%) proving that he is a huge attacking threat for Fulham, integral in the pressing and creative play in his 36 league appearances.

It’s safe to say Liverpool are not struggling for creativity in their team with 89 goals scored in the Premier League, but with Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Bobby Firmino all in or hitting their 30s this season, getting in a fresh young attacking perspective that fits the playmaking and pressing profile is essential for building up the successors of the current attacking threats in the team.

With that being said, Jurgen Klopp will surely be thrilled to finally have the transfer wrapped up ahead of the summer and can get to work with the youngster ahead of next season to identify the role and impact he can make on the current Liverpool team.

Man United plot move for N’Golo Kante

Manchester United are set for a huge revolution at Old Trafford this summer with the arrival of Erik ten Hag, and now transfer speculation surrounding one particular transfer target has emerged.

What’s the latest?

According to the Daily Mirror, the new Man United boss wants to sign N’Golo Kante from Chelsea this summer and reportedly believes the midfielder still has the ability and experience to help the young players at Old Trafford next season.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-man-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more-nunez-ten-hag-nkunku-richarlison” title=”Read the latest Man United news!”]

Kante has one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and the report suggests that ten Hag believes the midfield at his new club needs a drastic overhaul, with the manager searching for upgrades to better the quality in the centre of the pitch.

Ten Hag needs Kante

There is no doubt that Man United’s midfield is in desperate need of a player that can look after the ball better and dominate possession which is why it makes perfect sense for the club to sign Kante because when you look at the current choices Ten Hag definitely needs him.

On average per game the Red Devils lose possession 134.9 times in the Premier League, with the side recording their lowest possession percentages (28%) since Premier League records began against Liverpool at Anfield this season.

With that being said, adding the quality and experience of the 31-year-old French World Cup winner into their midfield next season would be a no-brainer for Ten Hag as he endeavours to improve the squad and compete for trophies.

The £45m-rated gem, who was initially signed for £30m, was dubbed “faster than the train” by France manager Didier Deschamps has made 145 ball recoveries, won 145 duels, made 25 interceptions, has a tackle success rate of 53%, scoring two goals and contributing four assists in 24 Premier League appearances this season.

Kante has been the recipient of high praise for his career achievements with the star winning back to back Premier League title’s with Leicester City and Chelsea, as well as picking up a Champions League and a World Cup and Ally McCoist claimed the midfielder was “magic” following his performances in the London club’s successful campaign in the Champions League last season.

Ultimately, the Frenchman would be a fantastic signing for Man United in their pursuit to make a comeback following a disappointing campaign this season and would surely add the star quality needed in the centre of the pitch if Ten Hag could secure his signature this summer.

Liverpool ‘could’ sign Darwin Nunez

Liverpool could indeed sign Benfica’s £31k-per-week starlet Darwin Nunez.

What’s the word?

That is according Ian Doyle of Liverpool Echo, who hosted a Q&A on the subject of Liverpool’s transfer business.

When prompted on whether Liverpool could target Nunez, he said: “They could. But that doesn’t mean they will. I would be surprised, though, if Mane or Salah leave and Liverpool don’t bring in someone of a near similar standard but younger.”

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Doyle did not rule out the possibility of Klopp snapping Nunez up from Benfica. Previous reports have stated a deal could cost around £66m.

Supporters excited

The opening response is enough to excite Liverpool fans across the globe, with the possibility of bringing in an elite forward like Nunez simply tantalising.

This season, the 22-year-old, who has been dubbed “special”, has truly announced himself to the world, with his four assists in 28 appearances serving as a phenomenal return for a player who seems to possess limitless potential.

His goals have been enough to propel him to the very top of the scoring charts in Portugal, and his Champions League performances against the Reds that saw him bag two goals in the two games against them will have surely whet the appetite of Klopp that bit more.

With Manchester City securing the elite capture of Erling Haaland, Liverpool may feel the need to pull the trigger on what could be an equally astute move. The narrow shortfall of Premier League glory will have left a bitter taste in the mouth of the German also, so you would not be surprised if the Reds made a move for him now before his value inevitably increases.

The Uruguayan is also one of the few forwards capable of filling the goal void that the departure of either Sadio Mane or Mohammed Salah would leave, with Nunez having scored 23 goals in all competitions respectively.

Based on that, this is certainly a move that would excite the fanbase at Anfield.

Leeds: Cross drops Kiko Casilla exit claim

Leeds United journalist Beren Cross believes Kiko Casilla will leave the club in some capacity during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The lowdown: Bielsa signing

Signed as a free agent from Real Madrid in 2019, the experienced goalkeeper made 62 outings for Leeds under Marcelo Bielsa before falling out of favour.

Since then, despite being hailed as a ‘complete player’ by Bielsa upon completing his switch to Elland Road, the veteran shot-stopper has been shipped out to Elche on a season-long loan deal.

Due to return to Yorkshire in the coming weeks and with another year to run on his contract, one reputable journalist has shed some light on the Spaniard’s situation…

The latest: ‘Highly likely’

Answering questions as part of a Q&A for Leeds Live, Cross addressed what could happen next for Casilla as part of a broader question about the fringe players in the squad.

He said: “Casilla has another year on his Leeds deal, but he has already said he never expects to play for Leeds again after moving to Elche. A sale or loan is highly likely for the goalkeeper.”

The one-cap Spain international indicated that his ‘intention is to stay in Spain’ back in July 2021.

The verdict: Cut ties

Many of even the most devoted Leeds faithful might’ve been forgiven for forgetting Casilla was still a member of Jesse Marsch’s extended squad.

Having made only 15 appearances in Spain this season Casilla looks to be heading towards the twilight of what has been a trophy-laden career having been a part of three UEFA Champions League trophy wins.

Regardless of the prospect of continued Premier League status at Elland Road and Illan Meslier’s future as a result, Director of Football Victor Orta, who played a significant role in bringing the stopper to the club, should be looking to offload Casilla and in turn take some wages off the bill if possible.

Aaron Ramsey tipped for Rangers exit

Rangers currently have a number of players in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad that are set to see their contracts expire at Ibrox in the coming days.

With that in mind, it seems as though a behind-the-scenes clue has emerged regarding the future of one of those Gers players.

What’s the talk?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge had this to say about Aaron Ramsey and his future once his current loan spell at Ibrox ends.

“I don’t think he will be back. We’ve seen a player who has had niggly injuries for his whole time there. He couldn’t get a run going, so I would be surprised [if he stayed].

“He put up an Instagram post on Sunday and it read to me like it was a bit of a goodbye. He hasn’t come here and been that consistent.”

Bad news for Van Bronckhorst

Rangers signed the midfielder on loan from Italian club Juventus during the previous January transfer window.

Since then, the Welshman made only 13 appearances for the Ibrox side, starting just nine of them across all competitions.

In those appearances, the midfielder scored two goals and provided two assists along the way. However, during the penalty shootout against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final, Ramsey ended up missing the penalty that led to the German side winning the trophy.

While Bridge is right in terms of the January recruit not getting a consistent run in the team during his time at Ibrox, it would still be disappointing for the fans and bad news for van Bronckhorst to not have the opportunity to keep Ramsey in the squad for next season.

With a summer break followed by a pre-season period under his belt, this could put the former Arsenal star in good shape to become a really important figure for the Gers and play on a consistent basis should he avoid any fitness issues.

Taking into account his knack for the occasional goal or assist, this and his vast experience could make him an incredibly useful figure for Rangers on and off the pitch.

With his current contract at Juventus set to expire in the summer of 2023, it could be worth Rangers seeing if the Serie A club would be willing to loan the midfielder to them again with an option for a permanent move next summer.

In other news: Van Bronckhorst heading for big Rangers disaster as worrying transfer claim emerges

Man City closing in on Marc Cucurella

Manchester City are reportedly close to securing a transfer to sign Brighton & Hove Albion full-back Marc Cucurella ahead of the upcoming summer window.

What’s the news?

According to reports in Spain (via City Xtra), a deal that would see the Spaniard make a move to the Etihad Stadium could be confirmed as early as next week after it was revealed last month that the Manchester club were interested in signing the player.

After working his way through Barcelona’s youth ranks, the defender had spells with Eibar and Getafe before finally leaving Spain and joining Brighton back in the previous summer transfer window.

During his debut season with the Seagulls, the 23-year-old ended up playing more minutes in the league than any other outfield Brighton player.

This highlights just how important he quickly became for Graham Potter.

In those appearances, the left-back scored one goal, delivered one assist and earned himself an overall performance rating of 6.94/10 from WhoScored, making him the third-highest rated player in Potter’s squad.

Guardiola would be buzzing

To further highlight how impressive Cucurella was throughout the latest Premier League season, the full-back racked up the highest number of crosses (94), blocks (72) and combined number of tackles and interceptions (160) in Brighton’s ranks.

On that evidence, City would be securing a defensively solid player who is capable of dealing with the demanding nature of the top-flight.

But it’s arguably his attacking prowess where he really stands out with the defender ending the campaign with more shot-creating actions (78) under his belt than the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo (76), Emi Buendia (74) and Gabriel Martinelli (70) among many others.

Taking this into account along with the pedigree that the Brighton star has having come from Barcelona’s youth ranks, having him in City’s squad would surely leave Pep Guardiola elated given his connection with the Spanish club.

With the Citizens having already secured deals for Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, it seems as though the club are keen on adding some defensive reinforcements to their ranks but with a player that is clearly capable of being an attacking threat as well from the wide areas.

Bearing in mind how City’s chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak recently revealed that the club are aiming to add two more signings to their squad this summer, it seems as though Cucurella could be the first one through the door.
