I wouldn’t mind having him back: Arsenal fans call for Alexis Sanchez return

[ad_pod ]

It would be fair to say that things have not worked out for Alexis Sanchez at Manchester United.

The Chile international moved to Old Trafford in January 2018 off the back of scoring 80 goals in 166 appearances for Arsenal.

Sanchez has netted just five times in 45 appearances for the Red Devils, though, and has found it extremely difficult to show his best form for the club.

Away on international duty at the Copa America, it has been a different story.

Indeed, the 30-year-old has scored against Japan and Ecuador at this summer’s tournament, impressing in both group games.

And a number of Arsenal fans have claimed that they would be open to the South American returning to the Emirates Stadium in this summer’s transfer window.

Check out the video below to find out why Arsenal fans aren’t celebrating Spurs’ UCL final defeat as much as they’d like…

There are currently no indications that the Gunners would want to re-sign Sanchez. However, a lot of fans are keen for that to happen.

Pundit View: Mills urges Newcastle to cash in on Perez

[ad_pod ]

Former England international Danny Mills believes Newcastle should cash in on Ayoze Perez, reveals Football Insider.

With all the takeover rumours and nerves over a potential new contract for Rafael Benitez, the fact that Newcastle could lose several first team players this summer seems to have been put on the back-burner.

A mass midfield exodus could see Mo Diame, Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden all depart, while Manchester United are reportedly interested in Sean Longstaff.

Up front, Salomon Rondon will return to West Brom unless something changes, and Perez has also been linked with a move away.

The Magpies will reportedly demand £35m for his services, while reports in Italy have claimed Tottenham and Napoli both want the Spaniard, and Mills thinks it’s time to cash in.

Pl>ymaker FC Exclusive: Jermaine Jenas reveals why Tyne-Wear is a more intense derby than anything London can offer – check out the video below….

What did he say?

“I’d be stunned if Tottenham signed him,” Mills told Football Insider. “He has been at Newcastle for five years and had half a good season. He has hardly ripped up any trees.

“If you can get a big fee, sell him. I would go for it if I was Newcastle. He is certainly replaceable, especially if they can get decent money to invest back into the team.”

Cash in

Grabbing eight goals and five assists in 2017/18, most of which came after Christmas, Perez topped his tally by netting 12 times this term, per Whoscored.

The Spaniard is hard-working, durable, trusted by Benitez and seems to have finally found his shooting boots.

However, with a £35m price tag on the forward’s head, Mills is absolutely right to say the club should cash in.

Perez has only hit double-digit league goals in a season once in his Newcastle career, despite playing over 2,000 minutes in all five campaigns with the club.

If Spurs are brave enough to stump up anywhere close to the reported price tag, that money could bring an excellent boost for the club’s summer window.

Regional Digest: Jean-Kevin Augustin has all the tools needed to be a success at Southampton

With the current goalscoring run he is on, Shane Long has managed to temporarily solve Ralph Hasenhuttl’s No.9 dilemma at Southampton.

Since arriving at St. Mary’s, up front has been a problem area for the Austrian, with Danny Ings constantly picking up injuries and Long himself previously having difficulties when it has come to finding the back of the net.

And while the 32-year-old has finally been able to find some form in recent weeks, those earlier difficulties, along with some other factors, are still likely to cause Hasenhuttl to dip into the summer transfer market for a new No.9.

In this moment of time, that No.9 looks to be RB Leipzig’s Jean-Kevin Augustin, with the Daily Mirror (via Tribal Football) reporting that Hasenhuttl is keen on a reunion with his former striker.

And assessing the 21-year-old’s skill set, it is not hard to see why. All things considered, he looks perfect for the Saints.

To go with his pace, explosiveness and finishing ability, Augustin also has the energy to press high and hassle down opposition defenders on the ball, something Hasenhuttl is trying to encourage at his new club.

If the France U21 international can bring all of that to the pitch, then the St. Mary’s faithful could be in for a real treat.

Arlo White foresees great things for Leicester City

[ad_pod ]NBC commentator Arlo White was very impressed with Leicester City against Manchester City at the Etihad on Monday.

Leicester were brilliant but were denied a well-earned point by a stupendous Vincent Kompany strike that moved Pep Guardiola’s men a step closer to another Premier League title.

The Foxes however created all sorts of problems for the Cityzens and also defended like they were fighting relegation, rather than cruising in mid-table – the sign of a team who are committed to their manager and what he is trying to do.

Brendan Rodgers has not had the job long but he already seems to have made an impact on this Leicester side, they have picked up 19 points since he has arrived whilst Jamie Vardy is a man reborn after scoring ten times.

White is correct to be positive about the future as the east Midlands outfit has some superb young players like James Maddison and Harvey Barnes. With Rodgers in charge playing expansive, entertaining football and with a decent budget for the summer, could they be the team to break into the top six?

Even if they don’t manage to do that, one or both of the cup competitions next season could be really attacked and the Foxes would stand a very good chance of picking up some silverware.

Jamal Lowe can be the man to replace Dwight Gayle’s goals next season

[ad_pod ]

According to Football League World, West Brom are keen on a deal for Portsmouth’s Jamal Lowe. The player has been magnificent for Pompey this season and would more than deserve a deal at a club in a higher division.

What’s the word?

Lowe has been in stunning form for the South Coast side this term, finding himself involved in 23 goals, netting 14 goals and laying on nine assists in League One.

Therefore, it’s no surprise to see him attracting the interest of one of the Championships top clubs.

Per, Football League World, the winger is being closely watched by West Brom who had also shown an interest in the player back in January. However, in the same month, Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett, via Portsmouth.co.uk revealed that they’d not received any offers.

The report on Lowe suggests that Albion are keen on the player regardless of whether the Blues go up. They currently sit in third place in League One so there is a real possibility that they may be playing in the Championship come next season.

Can he replace Gayle?

Given Dwight Gayle is a striker, Lowe wouldn’t be an out and out replacement for the Newcastle loanee. However, the 24-year-old is a creative force and knows where the back of the net is, meaning that if the Toon man wasn’t to seal permanent terms, Lowe would be a shrewd investment instead.

If West Brom get promoted then Gayle would be a foolish signing anyway, especially considering his awful record in the Premier League.

Jay Rodriguez has also been in the goals regularly in 2018/19 and has a good history in the top-flight. As a result, he should be the man enlisted in a central role from next season if James Shan successfully navigates his side through the play-offs.

For large periods of the current campaign, West Brom have played with just one striker with either Gayle or Rodriguez shifted out wide.

But by signing Lowe, they’d be able to develop more consistency in who plays in what position. His record this term meanwhile speaks for itself and provides evidence that he could help replace the goals left behind by Albion’s talisman.

Newcastle United: Biased deal will build Trump-esque wall between the Magpies and the elite clubs

The new Premier League television deal for international rights comes into force next season, and its bias towards the elite clubs is astonishing, and will have a massive effect on clubs like Newcastle.

The new multi-billion pound agreement, as reported in the Daily Telegraph, will see each top flight team receive a guaranteed amount of not less than the £40.7 million they currently get.

But the rest of the money will be on a sliding scale depending on league position — slanted, naturally, in favour of the already mega-rich elite clubs.

The result being, that the champions are in line to receive around £75m more than the lowest teams.

Newcastle fans can rightly claim that it is a ridiculous scheme, plotted by the ‘big six’ clubs, to make them richer, and reduce the chances of their team ever being able to bridge the growing gap between them.

While some people will say it will give the lower clubs more incentive, it is a defunct argument, as the extra revenue for the top sides will simply mean the playing field is a lot more uneven than it is now.

Leicester won the Premier League a few short years ago, and it has obviously not sat well with the big clubs and the Premier League — how dare they!

It is something clubs like Newcastle are unlikely to emulate, as the top six clubs are ring-fencing future titles for their own monopoly.

Newcastle, with their owner keen to starve everyone associated with the club except his own wallet, will never have the means to match the top six — unless an ambitious mutli-billionaire is reading this and fancies having a go, of course.

It will affect Newcastle in a huge way, with Ashley’s public statement that the club needs to be self-sufficient and can use “every penny generated” to help Rafa Benitez build a squad able to compete.

But how can they do that with this new deal?

The lopsided nature of it means the top clubs can just blow any other club out of the water, when it comes to buying players. They largely able to do that now, so after this deal comes into play, it is hardly worth Newcastle bothering.

Add to that the fact that every club across Europe will add a virtual premium onto players’ price tags for English clubs as a result of the amount included in the deal, and it will be virtually impossible for Newcastle to attract talent.

And how long will it be before the same thing comes into force with the domestic rights?

Once they get the taste of blood into their fangs from this deal, the vampires that are the top six, will ensure they line their own blood-banks in every future deal.

What they are doing, is creating a league within a league, and splitting the top flight into a ‘them and us’ division.

Newcastle’s aspirations of the future will be to become top of the ‘outcast’ league. And where is the excitement in that?

To keep with the analogy, they will suck the very life-force out of the game, which will end up with a few alpha clubs, and a host of empty vessels — but that is probably exactly what the are hoping for.

This deal will kill football for clubs like an Ashley owned Newcastle — and he was doing a pretty good job of that on his own!

What do you think of this new deal, Newcastle fans? Will it put you off following your team in years ahead? Let us know your thoughts…

Newcastle must give Andy Carroll a homecoming at St. James’ Park

A stunning victory to get back on winning terms has once again should just how good a manager Rafa Benitez is. While the Everton game alone isn’t the only reason the Geordies reading this will want him to stay, the fact he gave St. James’s Park one of its best days in years only adds to his burgeoning legend.

It’s certainly obvious that Newcastle are lucky to have the Spaniard and could still progress further up the league if they maintain a good performance level.

And with a strong group of players, there is optimism a top-half finish can be achieved. Consistency has been an issue for many teams in the Premier League this season, including the Magpies, however with the right intensity to their game, the players can do the rest.

Next season and then the season after are likely to get progressively harder, with the spending of teams around them sky-rocketing.

With that in mind, although they would have to pay his substantial contract, West Ham’s Andy Carroll should return back where he belongs.

Carroll, (who is valued at £7.2 million on Transfermarkt) although he has had numerous problems, could be revived with a move to Newcastle.

The big striker has yet to hear from West Ham as to whether he will earn a new contract next season but with yet another injury always around the corner, it seems that the Hammers may just have had enough.

So if injuries have been so persistent, why would the club bother offering him a contract? Well, it must be remembered that Carroll, on his day, is one of England’s deadliest strikers and constantly puts himself about in order to create chances for himself or team-mates around him.

Benitez and the Newcastle faithful all love the idea of having a big number nine to turn to and with Andy Carroll in their squad, that dream could turn into a reality. We’ve seen just how much the Geordie faithful love Salomón Rondon, imagine if he was a Geordie!

Would you want Carroll back at St James’ Park? If not, why not? Join the discussion by commenting below…

Injury News: Mamadou Sakho set to miss Crystal Palace’s clash with Man United

[ad_pod ]

On Tuesday Roy Hodgson provided an injury update on his squad and revealed that Mamadou Sakho will miss the clash against Manchester United on Wednesday as his struggles continue – the Frenchman limped off in the first half of the win over Leicester at the weekend.

What’s the update?

Hodgson had been hopeful of the 29-year-old’s availability for the midweek battle with the Red Devils, saying after their emphatic 4-1 victory on Saturday:

“He [Sakho] missed a lot of training and didn’t play against Doncaster Rovers as a result of feeling the knee in the West Ham game so he was out for a week having treatment, but he trained all of this week in the lead up to this game.

“But obviously he felt the knee again today.

“So we will have to reassess it on Monday and hope for the best.”

However, far from ‘the best’ news awaited the Premier League’s oldest-ever manager, who has now confirmed that assessment of the defender’s knee is ongoing and that he will not be in contention for the visit of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co.

Sakho isn’t the only one

Fortunately for the Selhurst Park outfit, United’s injury woes are far greater than theirs and the 13-time Premier League champions will be without up to ten players for the game, including Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

The lightning-quick duo have become crucial to Norwegian Solskjaer’s style of play but he will likely be forced, now, to deploy the considerably less mobile Romelu Lukaku up front – this will surely be of huge relief to Scott Dann, who would have been totally mismatched against the aforementioned duo’s pace.

The veteran centre-back replaced 29-year-old Sakho at the heart of defence against Leicester and will likely continue to deputise next time out.  The former Blackburn man will fancy himself far more in a physical battle than one of speed – he is surely one of the division’s slowest players.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

The 32-year-old might not be as quality a defender as Sakho, but he is a force to be reckoned with in the air – United have scored 11 goals from set-pieces this season and Palace have conceded 10, so Dann’s heading ability in defence of corners will be crucial.

Sakho’s injury is hardly a blessing in disguise for Palace but there is at least one positive to be taken from Dann replacing the former Liverpool man at centre-half.
