West Ham must axe Yarmolenko in summer

If West Ham United are to be contending in Europe next season, then David Moyes and the Irons hierarchy will need to shift some deadwood on in the summer.

There are several players on the fringes or are completely out of first-team reckoning that are merely wasting the club’s finances. They must be moved on to free up funds for a productive summer transfer window.

One name that should sit high on the list of priorities is Andriy Yarmolenko, who is still struggling for game time despite Michail Antonio’s recent injury problems.

The 31-year-old forward joined from Borussia Dortmund for around £18m in 2018 and is thought to be amongst the Hammers’ highest-earners on £115k-per-week at the London Stadium.

Yarmolenko was crucially not involved on Monday night as Moyes’ side gave their top-four dreams a huge boost, defeating Burnley 2-1 and his absence may not have been injury-related as he had been on the bench with Antonio out himself.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-latest-west-ham-news-transfer-rumours-and-the-latest-gossip-moyes-gsb-london-stadium” title= “Read the latest West Ham news, transfer rumours, gossip and more!”]

It’s clear that to see that the 58-year-old Scotsman doesn’t fancy the 92-time Ukraine international anymore as he has played just 992 minutes in all competitions throughout the 2020/21 campaign.

Across three years, Yarmolenko has only made 53 appearances, where he has scored ten goals and provided six assists, via Transfermarkt. In the same time frame, he has cost David Sullivan and co approximately £35m – and counting – when fees and wages are factored in.

That’s an excruciating £1.5m per appearance, and a disastrous £3.5m per goal scored.

These are finances that would be better off spent on players that are going to contribute to the cause, or those that are already lifting the club into European stardom.

Moyes will certainly need reinforcements this summer, especially in attack as he only has one senior striker at his disposal and having Yarmolenko continue to steal a living from the club is only going to hinder their plans.

Once lauded as “really special” by teammate Declan Rice, it’s time for the East London outfit to show no mercy and shift him on this summer.

Why Spurs must U-turn over Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris is set to remain at Spurs next season, according to emerging reports…

What’s the word?

Football Insider claim the 34-year-old captain is planning to extend his time at the club into a potential tenth year following talks with chairman Daniel Levy

The 123-time French international was facing an uncertain future in North London, where he has been since 2012. He has registered 371 appearances in the past nine years but will enter the final season of his current £100k-per-week contract this summer.

Lloris had been linked with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, where former manager Mauricio Pochettino is now in charge.

Time to go?

Levy must consider a U-turn on this decision as it is time for a new era at Tottenham.

Jose Mourinho was sacked a month ago and whilst the quest for a new manager rumbles on, one thing remains clear – the Lilywhites need a clear out.

Perhaps it is a little unfair to suggest but the same players who cost Pochettino his job, are the same ones that have ultimately seen the Portuguese out the door.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/spurs-managerial-latest-update-transfer-rumours-gossip” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, managerial gossip, transfer rumours and more!”]

This squad needs an overhaul, top to bottom, and there isn’t a better place to start than the longest-serving player and captain.

The 2014 World Cup winner has endured a slow and steady decline and has been at fault for several goals over the past 18 months or so. Defensive mistakes have been a recurring theme in Spurs’ season and that must be resolved under the new manager.

Last year, no other player had made more errors leading to a goal than Lloris since his arrival at Spurs, according to Sky Sports, whilst in 2018 he was dubbed a “liability” – and that hasn’t changed this term.

Lloris was described as “lettuce wrists,” “embarrassing” and as a “weak link” in this squad as recently as February following a goal-fest defeat to Everton in the FA Cup, with talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy urging him to move on this summer.

Spurs have been linked to many viable replacements, too, including relegated West Brom shot-stopper Sam Johnstone and England no.1 Nick Pope, so it’s not as if he’d be completely irreplaceable.

Levy must trackback over his stance on the £8m-rated star before he tarnishes his reputation with the Tottenham faithful even more.

AND in other news, Levy could secure Spurs their own Ramos by signing “formidable” £31.5m-rated “leader”…

Ex-Everton star tells Toffees who to sign

Former Everton star Michael Ball has told Football FanCast that the club need more players like James Rodriguez if they are to be successful.

The Toffees managed to sign the Colombia international from Real Madrid last summer.

BBC Sport reported at the time that they paid around £12m to sign the playmaker and he has gone on to enjoy an excellent season for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

James has scored six goals and laid on nine assists in 25 games in all competitions, even though he has struggled with injuries.

Ball has enjoyed watching the former Bayern Munich star play for the Toffees but he is acutely aware that he cannot be relied upon to play 38 games a season in the Premier League.

As such, he has urged Everton to try to bring in more players of the same quality as Rodriguez as they look to take the next step and potentially qualify for Europe next season.

The Toffees’ loss to Aston Villa at the weekend, a game Rodriguez missed, has left them nine points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

Speaking exclusively to FFC, Ball said: “We know we can’t rely on James, who’s only been playing 60-70 minutes and he’s missed a lot of football games. So we need players like him to come to the football club if we want to start being successful.

“At the end of the day, it does cost a lot of money to bring these top quality players in.

“Yes, you’d like to bring your youth in as well but that does take time and I feel with Carlo coming to the football club, he wants to be winning yesterday, he wants players to come in straight away and to be successful.”

SFC: Fans react to Hasenhuttl’s comments

Fans of Southampton have been reacting to a post on Twitter, in which Saints relayed the comments of Ralph Hasenhuttl following the club’s loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

Speaking after the 2-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, Hasenhuttl stated his belief that it was “unbelievable” how many chances his side missed in the match, as well as the fact that the loss did not reflect “what the game was about,” although admitted that, in the end, it is about which team is “more clinical” and who are “not so stupid.”

Indeed, despite edging the number of shots on target in the match, a clumsy challenge by Moussa Djenepo in the dying moments of the game resulted in Saints leaving the fixture empty-handed, as the winger’s foul on Harry Winks was deemed by VAR to have occurred inside the penalty area, with Heung-min Son converting from the spot to seal the three points for Spurs.

However, after Southampton relayed the manager’s comments on Twitter, fans of the club flocked to have their say on the matter, with many appearing furious with Hasenhuttl’s assessment of the match, so much so that a great number stated their belief that it is time for the club to sack the Austrian coach.

So, what exactly did these Southampton fans have to say in reaction to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s post-match comments?

“You’ve done it, I’m done with football now till Ralph has gone.”

@lord_champion

“How long does this go on for!?? Seriously. I remember the Branfoot era. You’re lucky fans aren’t in the ground. Pathetic.”

@Sam_Gibbo1885

“Excuse after excuse, enough is enough. It’s the same every game – it’s so predictable.”

@ryanrd1905

“It’s exactly the result we deserved because one more we were an absolute shambles in the 2nd half.”

@SaintStu19

“Seems to have absolutely no idea about how to turn this run around and his game management is Sunday league level, the club appears technically bankrupt at all levels currently.”

@subseasaint

“Your time is up, Ralph – you need to go. We’re all fed up hearing from you and losing too many games.”

@neiltay70524924

“He’s got to go.”

@LewisZebedee01

Leicester must sign Filip Helander

Leicester City are reportedly one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in swooping for Rangers’ centre-back Filip Helander.

According to Sportbladet, the Foxes admire the Swedish international alongside fellow Premier League outfit Aston Villa.

It is also reported that Steven Gerrard has already begun considering replacements for the 27-year-old so a deal could certainly be possible for Leicester, and certainly one that Director of Football Jon Rudkin should sign off.

Helander, a 14-time Swedish international, has enjoyed a terrific season in Scotland as Rangers lifted their first Premiership title in ten years.

He has made 27 appearances in all competitions and has not lost a single game throughout 2020/21 when he has taken to the pitch.

The defender, signed from Italian outfit Bologna in 2019, has also accumulated 16 clean sheets to his name – a highly impressive amount.

Whilst Helander’s defensive work has certainly not gone unnoticed, he has also been a threat in the other box too having netted three goals this season.

His form has been noted by Rangers’ boss Steven Gerrard; the former Liverpool midfielder labelling the Swede as a “leader” at the heart of the Rangers’ defence.

He definitely seems an extremely competent defender then and that is exactly what the Foxes need heading into 2021/22.

Club captain Wes Morgan’s contract continues to run down, with the Jamaican seeming likely to hang up his boots come the end of the campaign.

This would leave just Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyuncu and Wesley Fofana as the only natural centre-backs at Brendan Rodgers’ disposal. Considering that the East-Midlanders look certain to have another potential European campaign to contend with, another addition would be extremely welcome.

That is where Helander would benefit the Foxes again. He has already made 14 European appearances in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League during his career, as well as a further 10 in qualifying – experience that could well be vital.

Rated at just £1.8m, Helander could be a shrewd addition for the Foxes so they must beat Aston Villa to his signature.

West Ham face £21.5m fee for Kalajdzic

David Moyes should be happy to pay the £21.5m fee that West Ham United could have to pay in order to sign VfB Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic this summer.

What’s the word?

According to Kicker, via Sport Witness, Stuttgart are setting the market for Kalajdzic at €20m to €25m (£17-21.5m) as his name starts to hit transfer shortlists all around Europe.

The Bundesliga outfit are open to the fact they will have to sell some of their star players at the end of the season to fund arrivals, as Sporting Director Sven Mislintat strives to take the Mercedes-Benz Arena natives to the next level.

Kalajdzic has been in sensational form under head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo this term, netting 13 goals in 24 Bundesliga games – including eight in his last seven outings – to help fire Stuttgart to eighth in the table during their first year back in Germany’s top-flight.

His efforts are said to have put West Ham’s scouts on alert whilst Moyes strives to discover the eventual heir to Sebastien Haller, having opted against replacing the Ivory Coast forward during the winter market following his £20m move to AFC Ajax.

Other unnamed Premier League clubs are also keen on Kalajdzic, who has admirers at RB Leipzig and Serie A outfit AS Roma, but the 23-year-old is refusing to be drawn on speculation on his future.

“I am not concerned with this. I can well imagine an extension of the contract,” he told Kicker.

Kalajdzic is currently not scheduled to become a free agent until the summer of 2023, with his £7,500-per-week terms still having two more years to run.

Should West Ham sign Kalajdzic?

West Ham certainly appear to be emerging as a potential landing spot for Kalajdzic should the striker prove to be one option Stuttgart cash in on this summer, after recent reports claimed he was viewed as a cheaper alternative to Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham and Slavia Prague’s Abdallah Sima.

A potential £21.5m asking price would not be overtly cheap, given the Irons passed up on paying Stade de Reims €15m (£13m) for Boulaye Dia in January, yet Kalajdzic should not be scrubbed from thinking at the London Stadium.

The Stuttgart star has been setting Germany’s top-flight alight during his first year in the Bundesliga and struck two of his recent goals against Bayer Leverkusen despite losing 5-2 away to the Champions League qualifying hopefuls.

He also netted against Eintracht Frankfurt to put a dent in the Deutsche Bank Park natives’ top-four hopes and struck the equalising effort in a 1-1 draw with Leverkusen in October, as he lives up to the billing of being “important offensively” in the eyes of Mislintat.

Dia was rightfully overlooked in the winter market despite having 12 goals in 17 Ligue 1 games to his name by January 9th, as the 24-year-old has since failed to find the back of the net in any of his subsequent 10 French top-flight outings.

After scoring on the first day of the campaign away to title-hopefuls Monaco, Dia has also failed to fire home against a top side, instead, he’s been bullying the middle of the table and bottom-half clubs.

Kalajdzic may be just as unproven in England as Dia, but he is proving in Germany that he is worth taking a punt on once the transfer market re-opens for business this summer.

LFC fans react to Dembele rumour

A number of Liverpool fans have been reacting negatively to claims that the Reds are interested in a move for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

Jurgen Klopp could potentially be in the market for a new wide player this summer, as he looks to add more depth and quality to his squad.

Both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane turn 29 years of age this year, and while they still remain at their peak of their powers, long-term replacements need to be lined up eventually.

[freshpress-poll id=“348883″]

Diogo Jota arguably falls into that bracket, with the Portuguese only 24, but another addition could also come in to bring in a new era of Anfield attacking heroes.

Dembele is a player who has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past, but he has stayed put at Barcelona, albeit struggling for playing time and making just 12 La Liga starts this season.

Speaking on the Here We Go podcast [via Anfield Watch], journalist Fabrizio Romano talked up Liverpool’s interest in the 23-year-old France international:

“They [Barcelona] can’t lose this kind of player for free, they spent over €100m to sign him from Borussia Dortmund years ago. So they are going to negotiate with Dembele, they want to keep Dembele.

“They know that important clubs from the Premier League are looking at him. I’ll mention Juventus in Italy, I’ll mention Liverpool and Manchester United who were looking at him last summer and they’re always interested in this player, but it’s up to Barcelona, they will decide and they will negotiate with Dembele, because they want to keep Ousmane Dembele.”

Liverpool fans react to Romano’s Dembele claim

The Dutchman has started just five Premier League games all season under Guardiola due to fitness issues, but he is now ‘closer’ to a return according to Guardiola (Man City).

Snapped up from Bournemouth in the summer, alongside star signing Ruben Dias and Ferran Torres, City supporters will be hoping he can work his way into the team and justify a considerable £40 million price tag (BBC).
