Their first game in Gurgaon slots them up against defending champions Hyderabad Heroes, and a Chris Cairns-led Chandigarh would look to quickly brush off any signs of rustiness. This will be their first match since victory over Chennai Superstars, the top-placed team, on October 18.Hyderabad kicked off the tournament at home with a win over a strong Lahore Badshahs – a floodlight failure forced an early finish with Hyderabad in the advantage. They held their nerve to steal a win over the Dhaka Warriors despite a brilliant Alok Kapali century – the ICL’s first – but failed to chase against Chennai. The two allrounders, Abdur Razzaq and Nicky Boje, have been vital with the ball while on the batting front, Hyderabad need the likes of Ambati Rayudu and Chris Harris to consolidate on the start provided by Jimmy Maher and Razzaq.Both of Chandigarh’s wins were close affairs, rather unusual since they came against teams at either end of the points table. Tuffey and Hall form a threatening new-ball pair, but surprisingly their vital 20-run stand for the ninth wicket against Chennai is the best for the penultimate pairing in ICL matches.Players to watchAbdul Razzaq has been Hyderabad’s leading wicket-taker this season, but their key player in last season’s title triumph – he was Player of the Tournament – has not delivered at the top of the order with the bat. وكانت قرعة كأس العالم قد أقيمت في الأول من أبريل الماضي في العاصمة القطرية “الدوحة” وكان هناك أكثر من منتخب لم يتأهل بعد بسبب ملحق التصفيات حتى أمس عندما تأهلت كوستاريكا آخر المتأهلين.

الجدير بالذكر أن مباراة الافتتاح ستكون بين السنغال وهولندا في تمام الساعة الثانية عشر ظهرًا بتوقيت “القاهرة” يوم 21 نوفمبر على ملعب “الثمامة”.

أكد روبرتو مانشيني، المدير الفني للمنتخب الإيطالي، أن فريقه كان يجب عليه الفوز بفارق كبير من الأهداف أمام المجر، لكنه بشكل عام كان راضيًا عن أداء لاعبيه.

وأردف مدرب إيطاليا: “نحن نلعب مع العديد من الشباب، وندرك أن لدينا الكثير من العمل الذي يتعين علينا القيام به، والطريق لا يزال طويلًا”.

Ben Jacobs has dropped a promising claim on the potential takeover of Newcastle United involving the upcoming arbitration case against the Premier League.

The Lowdown: Newcastle protest

As per Jacobs, some members of the Toon Army have gone out on a protest to call for more transparency over the whole takeover situation.

This comes after similar calls from Amanda Staveley in an interview with Sky Sports and from the St. James’ Park faithful themselves after releasing a statement on their official website.

The Latest: Jacobs on arbitration

Citing the forthcoming arbitration hearing as ‘specifically about separation’, moreover whether the North East club can prove that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) Public Investment Fund (PIF) is a separate entity to the Saudi state, Jacobs has given his latest verdict on what the results could mean.

The sports journalist, who has been following the latest developments in the takeover saga very closely, has claimed that a takeover is ‘still likely’ if the Tyneside club can win arbitration.

The Verdict: Still hope

There is still very much hope that a takeover can be completed for the Magpies, especially if they can win arbitration.

With the protests going on and more calls for transparency, including from consortium members themselves, the Premier League are clearly under a lot of pressure, and so NUFC may well take advantage of this when the proceedings begin.

Nonetheless, the results are set to be pivotal in determining the direction of where the takeover is heading, and the club will obviously be hoping that they go in their favour so we can find out if Jacobs’ ‘still likely’ prediction comes true.

Antes de acertar com Cristovão Borges,Vanderlei Luxemburgo já era um candidato para assumir a equipe vascaína. Alguns membros da diretoria defendem a contratação do experiente treinador.

Campeão da Copa do Brasil em 2011, Ricardo Gomes é outro concorrente ao posto. Porém, vale lembrar que ele é muito amigo de Cristovão, que foi seu auxiliar técnico. Isso pode fazer com que Gomes não aceite o convite.

Outros que estão na mira são Rogério Micale e Milton Mendes. O primeiro está no mercado desde que foi demitido da Seleção Brasileira Sub-20, em fevereiro. Já o outro está sem clube desde agosto do ano passado, quando saiu do Santa Cruz.

A diretoria vascaína agora se reúne para entrar em consenso por um nome para substituir Cristovão Borges. O clube ainda não divulgou um prazo para anunciar o novo treinador.

ولم يوضح بيان النادي الكتالوني مدة غياب جونزاليس عن الملاعب، مشيرة إلى أنها تعتمد على وتيرة تعافيه من الإصابة.

Those of us who grew up watchingcricket in the 50s remember the seeming effortlessness of hisaction and the mesmeric influence he had on batsmen despite histiny, frail physique. Subhash Gupte had a neat little action,and, unless my memory tricks me, he had the palms of his handspointing towards him even as his arms went up during his predelivery stride.For a leg-spinner, Gupta had a remarkably high arm action, andhis flight, while tantalising and deceptive, was rarelyextravagant. Like all great spinners, he had the uncanny knack ofinducing an optical illusion in batsmen of the ball heading for acertain spot on the pitch and invariably dropping just short ofthat. His control was perhaps unmatched by leg-spinners of mosteras, though his admirer and successor for a mere two Tests, V VKumar, came close to it, as did Shane Warne.My first memory of Gupte is from the Madras Test against NewZealand in January 1956, when his nine wickets in the match werecompletely overshadowed by the world-record opening partnershipbetween Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy. Yet he made an instantimpact on young spectators with his buttoned-down sleevesfluttering in the breeze and the clinical precision of hisbowling.For weeks on end, countless boys around India tried to bowl legbreaks and googlies in the Gupte manner, all with slightlydifferent results, no doubt a result of the complete absence offull-sleeved shirts in their wardrobes. The walk from school tobus-stop and bus-stop to home now became a succession of maidenovers and devastating googlies so that England or the West Indieswere reduced to two-digit totals for the loss of all theirwhimpering batsmen. (The love affair with Gupte continued throughthe next Test at Madras against Ian Johnson’s Australians, butgiven a boy’s natural inclinations, it was not long before GhulamAhmed took over, bringing with him a propensity to walk tallerand swing the arms in an imposing swagger.)Conversations with two great cricketers come to mind as I try toremember the little details of the Gupte magic. The first waswith Neil Harvey on a visit to Chennai during the 1998-99 ChennaiTest between India and Australia. Harvey remembered how he wentafter the little leg-spinner after his captain Richie Benaud hadleft a newspaper clipping under his breakfast plate at Bombay onthe morning of the Test match there in 1960. According to theleft-hander, the story had described what Gupte would do to him,and it had not been flattering. The message from the captain wasclear: it was Harvey’s job to hit Gupte out of the attack.Harvey recalled accomplishing his mission successfully. To hisastonishment and the utter delight of his team, the selectorsdropped the little leg-spinner for the next Test, even thoughAustralia had been in all sorts of trouble against him before theHarvey assault.I also had the privilege of listening to Sir Gary Sobers’ viewson Gupte at the Madras Cricket Club a couple of years later.Sobers’ evaluation of Gupte as a greater bowler than Shane Warneis by now common knowledge. After explaining to the smallaudience why he thought so, he turned to me – to my completesurprise – and asked who, in my opinion, was the next best Indianleg-spinner of the orthodox variety. Was it Baloo Gupte, hewondered. I pointed to the sprightly young fellow of 65 summerssitting just a few yards away.Why did I consider V V Kumar superior to other leg-spinners, thegreat West Indian persisted. "Because, not only did he bamboozlebatsmen with his flight and variety, he was also the mostaccurate wrist-spinner around," I told him. "Yes, I can see that.The old chap still lands it on a perfect length in the nets athis coaching camp," agreed Sir Gary, who had been flown in by theMAC Spin Academy for a brief stint. Sobers’ assessment of Gupteas the finest exponent of his craft will, given his stature,perhaps live on as the most famous eulogy of a great spinner.
