The IPL governing council has appointed a three-member commission comprising two former high court judges and BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale to look into the complaints against India Cements, the owners of the Chennai Super Kings, Gurunath Meiyappan, the Super Kings official arrested on charges of betting, and Jaipur IPL Pvt Ltd, the owners of Rajasthan Royals.The two judges are Justice T Jayaram Chouta, a former judge of the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu High Courts, and Justice R Balasubramanian, former judge of the Tamil Nadu High Court.”The Commission will be initiating the adjudication proceedings at the earliest,” the BCCI said in a release.The composition of the commission is different to what BCCI president N Srinivasan had announced in Kolkata, where he said it would be formed by two BCCI officials and one independent member. This commission, Srinivasan said, would be responsible for investigating and deciding whether his son-in-law Gurunath was an owner of the Super Kings franchise.The commission will also conduct an inquiry into the owners of the Rajasthan Royals franchise, three of whose players – Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan – were arrested on allegations of spot-fixing.

“The messages that they [Ajinkya Rahane and Raghuvanshi] sent during the time-out, they made us understand that it’s not an easy pitch to just go out there and hit. You have to take your time,” Venkatesh told reporters after the match. “Ball was sticking a little, it was turning.”So it was important for us not to chew a few balls, but to take time to understand what the pitch has to offer. And I have that luxury because we have Rinku [Singh], Ramandeep [Singh] and [Andre] Russell in the backend.”Even if I take a few balls, I know that if I can cover it to an extent, we still have our engine room who can demolish any bowling attack. So the plan was to understand the pitch first and then react accordingly.”It worked as Venkatesh and Rinku accelerated after the 15th over when they were on 11 off ten and 6 off eight balls, respectively.But with two set batters at the crease, anything less than full-throttle hitting would have been an opportunity wasted with Russell, Ramandeep and in this game, Moeen Ali still padded up. While this depth in the line-up gives batters the freedom to play fearlessly – knowing their wicket holds less individual value – Venkatesh pointed out another reason.”We tried to milk it around, understand the condition,” Venkatesh said. “It was never easy for a new batter to go out there and hit. To be very honest, even if Ramandeep and Russell would have come in the 18th over, they would have had to take a couple of balls to understand the nature of the surface. Do SRH need to rethink their batting approach?

“But I think the frame of mind that you are talking about, once we hit the 17th over, we just understood that we can tee off now. We had taken enough time. We had to hit because we have three more batters coming in, but in order to hit and in order to execute the plans properly, it was important for us to spend time out there and that’s what we did.”Reflecting on his low scores – 3 and 6 – in his first two knocks before this breakout innings, Venkatesh felt he was “rushing a little” earlier in the tournament. He further said they wanted to be a team that posted “20 runs above par” and not just swing from ball one.”It’s very important for us to show positive but correct intent,” he said. “If we are 50 for 6 and I still go and tonk everything, that’s positive, but that’s not correct.”Aggression does not mean tonking every ball for sixes. It’s about how you understand the conditions, how you are able to maximize the conditions in your favour. And that is what aggression actually is. We don’t want to be the team that scores 250 when we’re playing well and when we’re not, we get out for 70.”We want to be a team who understands the pitch and the conditions quickly. To assess the par score and try to make 20 runs above par.”Venkatesh acknowledged that their total wasn’t entirely comfortable against a team like SRH. Diferente do futebol masculino em diversos aspectos, principalmente nos que dizem respeito ao investimento e visibilidade, o futebol feminino vem “respirando por aparelhos” ao longo das décadas. Entretanto, uma importante decisão da Conmebol pode mudar essa realidade nos próximos anos. A entidade que comanda o futebol da América do Sul determinou que os clubes classificados à Libertadores masculina a partir de 2019, precisarão contar com um elenco feminino ou serão automaticamente eliminados do torneio continental.

Entre os maiores campeões do futebol feminino no Brasil, apenas três estão entre os chamados clubes grandes do Brasil: Santos, Corinthians e Flamengo. A decisão da Conmebol pode impactar diretamente nesse cenário, inserindo mais times de ponta nessa categoria. O LANCE! conta abaixo um pouco da história dos principais colecionadores de títulos da modalidade no país:

Santos – Sereias da Vila (campeão do Brasileirão, Copa do Brasil e Libertadores)

História
A equipe feminina do Santos foi criada em 1997, no período em que a Federação Paulista de Futebol anunciou que promoveria o primeiro Campeonato Estadual da modalidade. Considerado um dos favoritos ao título daquele ano, o time ficou com o vice e só ergueu seu primeiro troféu em 2000, com a conquista dos Jogos Abertos do Interior, marca de pouca expressão perto do principal triunfo da equipe: as Libertadores de 2009 e 2010.

Um período que não deixa saudades para a equipe foi o ano de 2012, quando o então presidente do clube, Luís Álvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro, anunciou o fim do time feminino. Em coletiva de imprensa realizada em janeiro de 2012, o então dirigente atribuiu o encerramento das atividades à falta de investimento de empresas e ao projeto do clube para manter Neymar até 2014.

Atacante do time na época, Érika ainda tentou convencer os dirigentes do clube a manter a equipe e contou com ajuda do próprio Neymar para arrecadar fundos, mas não foi o suficiente. Entretanto, com Modesto Roma Júnior no cargo máximo do Santos, as atividades foram retomadas em fevereiro de 2015 e o time voltou a se firmar no cenário nacional. Atualmente, as Sereias da Vila disputam o Brasileirão, Campeonato Paulista e Libertadores (que acontece entre 18 de novembro e 2 de dezembro).

Passagens de destaque
Considerado o melhor time feminino do Brasil no período entre 2009 e 2012, o Santos chegou a ter 11 atletas convocadas para a Seleção Brasileira de uma só vez. Entre elas, algumas das maiores jogadoras da história do Brasil: Formiga, multicampeã pela Seleção; Marta, seis vezes melhor do mundo, e Cristiane, apontada como a terceira melhor jogadora do mundo em 2007 e 2008.

Ferroviária – Guerreiras Grenás (campeã brasileira, da Libertadores e Copa do Brasil)

História
Conhecida como Guerreiras Grenás, a equipe feminina do Ferroviária, em Araraquara, foi criada em 2001 por meio de uma parceria entre a prefeitura da cidade e a Fundesport (Fundação de Amparo ao Esporte do Município de Araraquara). O projeto saiu do papel na primeira administração do prefeito Edinho Silva e a necessidade de incetivo na categoria foi o principal favor motivador para que os idealizadores do plano buscassem patrocínio com o objetivo de desenvolver o futebol feminino na cidade.

Apoiado inicialmente pelo Grupo Pão de Açúcar, por meio da rede de hipermercados Extra, o projeto incluía não só uma equipe principal de futebol feminino, como também a organização de um trabalho social para desenvolver o esporte em diversos bairros, que já contava com 3 mil crianças e jovens antes mesmo de receber o patrocínio da entidade privada. Vista com admiração por seus dirigentes, o time de Araraquara se tornou bicampeão paulista ainda com a prefeitura.

Apesar de sua importância, o projeto correu o risco de acabar em 2010 devido a dificuldades financeiras. Com isso, Welson Alves Ferreira, presidente da Ferroviária na época, solicitou a união dos dois times, que foi aceita. Neste período, criou-se a Liga Araraquarense de Futebol Feminino, que conta com o apoio da Caixa Econômica Federal. O dinheiro recebido passou a ser repassado para o time principal e no projeto social das Escolinhas nos bairros de Araraquara. Com o crescimento do clube no cenário nacional, Natura, Just Fit, Inmes, Viação Paraty, Unimed e Sonhar Colchões também passaram a estampar suas marcas no uniforme da equipe, que é peça carimbada no Campeonato Paulista e no Brasileirão.

Passagens de destaque
Na condição de um dos times femininos que mais vezes foram campeões nacionais, as Guerreiras Grenás também já tiveram diversas jogadoras convocadas para as três categorias da Seleção Brasileira. Entre elas, Andreia Rosa, que hoje atua na Noruega, Raquel, que completou a marca da cem jogos com a camisa da Ferroviária e também faz parte do time canarinho, e a atacante Bia, que é considerada pelos dirigentes do clube como um dos maiores destaques que já passaram por lá. Ela foi revelada pelos projetos de futebol feminino distribuídos pelos bairros de Araraquara.

Corinthians – Campeão da Libertadores e Copa do Brasil

História
Antes de o Corinthians aderir ao Profut (Programa de Modernização da Gestão e de Responsabilidade Fiscal do Futebol Brasileiro), a diretoria já visava a reformulação de uma equipe feminina. Entretanto, com a efetuação do vínculo, tornou-se necessária a criação da modalidade para atender uma das condições descritas no acordo, que diz respeito à manutenção de investimento na formação de atletas (base) e no futebol feminino.

Criada em 2016, a equipe de futebol feminino do Corinthians teve origem em uma parceria com o Grêmio Osasco Audax, que durou duas temporadas. Neste período em que defenderam dois clubes, as meninas conquistaram dois dos principais títulos disputados por equipes do país: Copa do Brasil e Libertadores.

Porém, no início de 2018, a diretoria do Corinthians anunciou o fim da aliança para tirar do papel o plano de criar seu próprio time feminino, que hoje conta com 24 atletas em treinamento no Parque São Jorge, sob comando do técnico Arthur Elias. Atualmente, a equipe disputa o Campeonato Paulista e o Brasileirão, torneio em que é finalista ao lado do Rio Preto.

Passagens de destaque
Considerada uma das melhores equipes do atual cenário do futebol brasileiro, o Corinthians completou a marca de um ano sem perder em setembro. No período, a equipe disputou 40 jogos dos quais obteve 36 vitórias e quatro empates. Assim como o Santos, o Timão também já contou e ainda possui nomes importantes no seu elenco, casos de Milene Domingues, conhecida como Rainha das Embaixadinhas após fazer 55.197 e entrar no livro dos recordes; Rosana, que foi ouro pelo Brasil nos Jogos Pan-Americanos de 2007 e atualmente defende o Santos e as recém-convocadas Letícia (goleira), Fabiana (lateral) e a Gabi Nunes (meia).

São José – campeão da Libertadores, Copa do Brasil e vice do Brasileirão em 2013 e 2015

História
A trajetória do time feminino teve início em 2001, com uma equipe criada pela prefeitura de São José dos Campos, que visava a disputa dos Jogos Abertos do Interior e mais tarde viria a formalizar uma união com o São José Esporte Clube. O primeiro grande passo para a categoria foi em 2010, quando o São José conseguiu patrocínio de uma universidade da região e chegou à primeira divisão do Campeonato Paulista.

No mesmo ano, a equipe surpreendeu no estadual ao chegar à finalíssima contra o Santos, porém ficou somente com o vice. Apesar do revés, não demoraria para o São José Feminino dar o maior impulso desde a sua fundação, pois em 2011, veio a conquista do primeiro título da Libertadores em uma vitória por 1 a 0 sobre o Colo-Colo diante do público de 15 torcedores, no estádio Martins Pereira.

Com uma estrutura mais evoluída e contando com o apoio de empresas da cidade, o time se tornou bicampeão da Copa do Brasil e da Libertadores em apenas dois anos. Além da importância histórica dos títulos conquistados, a boa atuação da equipe aumentou a visibilidade das jogadoras, que começaram a frequentar a lista de convocadas da Seleção Brasileira.

Mesmo com as dificuldades e falta de apoio ao futebol feminino, de forma geral o São José nunca passou por uma crise financeira, mas teve redução de patrocínio e precisou adaptar seus gastos à realidade econômica do país.
Apesar de ainda não ter uma taça do Campeonato Brasileiro em sua sala de troféus, o São José guarda um prêmio ainda maior: a conquista do Mundial de Futebol Feminino, em 2014. O título foi obtido através da vitória por 2 a 0 sobre o Arsenal, no estádio de Nishigaoka, em Tóquio. Com ela, a equipe do interior paulista se tornou a primeira feminina a vencer a competição. Atualmente, o São José disputa o Brasileirão e o Campeonato Paulista.

Passagens de destaque
O São José também já cedeu grandes nomes para a Seleção Brasileira, caso da meia Formiga, multicampeã olímpica pelo time canarinho, e da atacante Cristiane, que também se destacou pelo Brasil e foi considerada a terceira melhor jogadora do mundo, pela Fifa, em 2007 e 2008. No cenário atual, Rita-Bove, capitã e meia, que esteve na conquista do Mundial, também é um grande destaque no time, ao lado de Fernanda Tipa, que veio do Rio Preto e foi artilheira da temporada, com 14 gols, e a atacante Michele Carioca, que tem 12 gols marcados.

Flamengo/Marinha – Campeão brasileiro e carioca

História
Visando a disputa do Campeonato Carioca, o Flamengo manteve uma equipe feminina entre 1995 e 2001. Porém, a categoria foi encerrada antes mesmo de conquistar seu primeiro título. O clube retomou as atividades com um time feminino em 2011 e pensava em ter Marta no elenco, afim de atrair maior visibilidade, mas o acordo com a jogadora não vingou e o time pôde dar continuidade ao trabalho através de uma parceria com a prefeitura de Guarujá (SP), onde o grupo passou a treinar. Neste período, o Flamengo chegou a ter no elenco Thaisinha, destaque na Seleção Brasileira, mas interrompeu suas atividades.

A história do time feminino do Flamengo teve um novo capítulo em julho de 2015, quando o então vice-presidente geral do clube, Walter D’Agostinho, anunciou uma parceria com a Marinha do Brasil visando a disputa do Campeonato Brasileiro. Apesar de a taça mais desejada não ter vindo, a equipe conquistou o Campeonato Carioca em seu primeiro ano com a campanha de dez vitórias em 11 jogos.

Em 2016, as meninas rubro-negras deram mais um grande passo na carreira ao chegarem ao bicampeonato estadual com vitória sobre o Vasco. Meses depois, veio o primeiro título do Campeonato Brasileiro, conquistado sobre o Rio Preto, marca que fez o Flamengo se tornar a primeira equipe fora de São Paulo a ganhar o torneio. Em 2017, o time da Gávea conquistou, com o elenco feminino, o tricampeonato estadual. Atualmente, a equipe disputa o Campeonato Brasileiro e o Carioca.

Passagens de destaque
Entre as peças de maior destaque que já passaram pelo CT rubro-negro estão Tânia Maranhão e Maycon, que foram prata pela Seleção Brasileira nos Jogos Olímpicos de 2004 e 2008, respectivamente. Além delas, a artilheira Dany Helena, a meio-campista Ju Ferreira, a lateral-direita Rayanne Machado e as goleiras Kemelli Trugilho e Stefane Pereira acabam de ser convocadas para um período de treinamentos no time canarinho.

Rio Preto – Campeão Brasileiro e paulista

História
​Em 1996, o casal Dorotéria Inojo e “Chicão” Reguera tinha duas filhas apaixonadas por futebol, mas não encontrava oportunidade para dar início à carreira no esporte, pois não havia uma escolinha para meninas na cidade de São José do Rio Preto. Vendo o talento de suas filhas e de outras que também queriam atuar em um time, o casal criou o Juventude.

Apesar de chamar a atenção na cidade, a pequena equipe, que era financiada com recursos repassados pela prefeitura, viu sua chance de profissionalização se expandir ao sacramentar união com o Rio Preto em 2008.

Segundo Dorotéia, que atua como uma das principais dirigentes do time feminino, uma grande ajuda de custo nunca foi recebida, mas o time consegue se manter com o pouco de investimento que recebe de entidades privadas e a dedicação dos funcionários e atletas. O Rio Preto tem grande atuação na parceria com a parte física, inclusive cedendo o campo para a equipe treinar e realizar seus jogos.

A determinação do time é apontada como o principal fator que encaminhou o Rio Preto às conquistas do Campeonato Brasileiro e do bi-campeonato Paulista entre 2015 e 2017. Atualmente, a equipe segue na disputa dos dois torneios, sendo finalista do Brasileirão ao lado do Corinthians.

Dentre as principais jogadoras que passaram pela equipe estão a filha do casal e atacante Darlene, que tem passagens pela Seleção Brasileira e hoje atua no Benfica, assim como Maiara, que também está jogando em Portugal.

Ed Cowan has argued that critics of his and Ricky Ponting’s contributions to Australia’s Test series in the West Indies are not looking far enough beyond the skeletal facts of the scoreboard. All of Australia’s top seven batsmen have fought battles within themselves to find effective ways of scoring runs in the Caribbean on a series of slow pitches often aiding spin, and Cowan argued that their collective efforts were worthy of more praise than derision.On day three of the Dominica Test, Cowan and Ponting made 55 and 57 respectively, pushing the visitors lead to 310 with four second-innings wickets in hand on a surface offering generous turn and sharp bounce to West Indies’ spin bowler Shane Shillingford. Their contributions meant that every member of the Australia Test team for the series had offered at least one performance of note, though there will be more than six months of speculation about the batting order between now and Australia’s next Test, which is in Brisbane against South Africa.”I try not to read too much of it [the criticism] but if you’re in the Australian cricket team and you’re not consistently getting big scores, of course you are going to be under pressure. You don’t need to be a genius to work that out,” Cowan said. “The only disappointing aspect is I think you guys here on the ground would appreciate how hard batting has been through the series but people [in Australia], because of the time zone, probably haven’t watched a lot of cricket.”They click on a link to see the score in the morning and they go ’28, oh … Ponting 30, these guys are struggling’. It means we’re contributing. As I just alluded to, 50 on a wicket like that can be as good as a hundred. Sure the runs don’t show on the scorebook but over 300 to chase is a hell of a lot of runs. The contributions from the guys, they haven’t been huge admittedly, which provides a little bit of ammunition if you’re looking for it, but at the same time it has provided scores that are putting pressure on them [West Indies] to respond. As we’ve seen they’re really heavily reliant on Shiv [Chanderpaul] to perform. He’s probably due not to. We’re confident we’ve got heaps of runs on the board already.”In less than a year, Cowan has gone from a state batsman who sees very little of Ponting outside of watching him bat on television to becoming a regular batting partner for the former Australia captain with both Tasmania and Australia. He said their relationship as batting partners had developed strongly in that time.”I really love batting with Ricky. I feel, maybe because we are both playing for the same domestic team, there’s the same kindred spirit there,” Cowan said. “He’s been a huge help to me, because I feel like the other guy really cares what I’m doing at my end and that’s how really good partnerships and bonds and batting friendships can develop. That was a thrill in itself,” he said. “What I did say was how important the day was for our generation, having not lived through a war and not been crippled by that fear of not knowing if your mates or your brother or your son’s going to return, and how thankful we need to be for those who did live through that.”Then I recounted a quick story of a guy called Stan Bisset, who was on the 1939 Wallabies [rugby] tour before he led a battalion up the Kokoda trail [in Papua New Guinea] three years later, and told a story of what I thought was extreme loyalty and mateship he showed to his men, and how grateful we should be that we aren’t faced with the same choice of having to risk our own lives to save those of our mates.”

Mascarenhas picked up his second five-for in Twenty20 cricket, in conditions perfectly suited to his accuracy and medium pace. His performance helped bowl out Pune Warriors for just 115 on a slow track, and Shaun Marsh ensured the chase was on track with a composed half-century that marked his own return to form.On a Mohali track that had some grass and one that was livened up with some rain last night, the Kings XI seamers justified their captain’s decision to field, deriving swing and movement with some accurate bowling and picking up wickets at a steady pace in the process. After the early loss of Jesse Ryder, who was run out thanks to a late decision against a single by his partner Sourav Ganguly, Praveen Kumar, Parvinder Awana and Mascarenhas went about slowing down the innings considerably. Praveen got significant away movement and surprised the batsmen with ones that nipped back in.The top order hasn’t really fired for the Warriors and the trend continued. After promising much with a couple of delightful shots, Ganguly was dismissed thanks to the introduction of Mascarenhas. He got rid of Ganguly with some away movement that produced a leading edge, and saw off an edgy Marlon Samuels with a lovely delivery that moved just at the right time to clip the off stump.At the other end, with the Warriors soon reduced to 29 for 3, Uthappa was forced to curb his natural instincts but found an able partner in Mithun Manhas, whose swift running and busy approach didn’t allow his side to buckle down significantly. Interspersed between a spate of singles and twos were a couple of useful boundaries from Manhas, a wristy smack over Piyush Chawla’s head standing out.The 26-run stand for the fifth wicket ended when Uthappa holed out against Mascarenhas in his second spell and Steven Smith followed not long after, bowled off an inside edge. Smith and Uthappa had played a critical role in the Warriors’ previous two wins, chipping in with cameos that proved crucial in the outcome, but weren’t able to push on today.Mascarenhas returned to trouble the Warriors more in his final spell, and wasn’t perturbed when struck for a huge six over extra cover by Manhas. He stuck to a straight line, bowling Manhas the very next ball as he tried the scoop, and picked his fifth as Rahul Sharma skied one to deep midwicket; the innings was wrapped up shortly after.Barring a first-ball setback when Paul Valthaty was cleaned up by Ashok Dinda, Kings XI never really strayed off the track in the chase. Marsh, whose last seven Test innings have yielded just 17 runs, began his innings in style, pulling Dinda through midwicket. It didn’t help the Warriors that their fielding was poor, with misfields, overthrows, a missed run-out and a couple of dropped catches preventing them from putting up a fight.Together with Adam Gilchrist, Marsh saw off the early pressure with two crunching boundaries off Samuels through the off side and Gilchrist matched him, smacking Angelo Mathews for successive fours in the last over of the field restrictions. Marsh, who was reprieved when on 31 and 41, was ruthless when offered width and his adeptness at playing the pull allowed the Warriors bowlers little margin for error. Both timing and power were on display, a classy flick over midwicket off Nehra and a towering six over long-on off Rahul Sharma typifying both those features.Chawla, promoted above David Hussey, gave Marsh good company and sealed the win, the Warriors doing their bit to hasten it through some sloppy fielding.

Pakistan’s “home” series against England, to be played in the UAE from January 2012, will have DRS for the Tests in addition to the ODIs as previously decided. The PCB’s current sponsorship deal for the DRS, under which the ODIs in this series and those already played against Sri Lanka were covered, has been extended to include Tests but not the Twenty20 internationals.There will be no Hot Spot but ball-tracking technology provided by Hawk-Eye will be used in the DRS.”The PCB believes in technology and we were very keen to get the Test series covered with DRS too,” PCB’s General Manager media Nadeem Sarwar told ESPNcricinfo. “Our marketing department has done a great job to convince the sponsor and the DRS will bring added value to the Test series.”In October, the PCB had signed a deal with Pepsi to cover the cost of DRS for only the one-dayers against Sri Lanka and England in the UAE.”We are now hosting the [England] series with only Hawk-Eye for the DRS without the Hot Spot version. Since the use of this expensive technology was not part of the deal signed with the broadcaster [Ten Sports] but we will be considering the option in our new deal.”A deal with the broadcaster was renewed in November 2008 for five years according to which Ten Sports held the telecast and distribution rights for international tours including all Tests, ODIs and Twenty20 matches without the use of DRS technology.

The Sindh High Court has adjourned his case against the PCB until September 27 after the board asked Kaneria to produce tapes of the police inquiry he faced in the UK. Kaneria had been questioned in a case involving spot-fixing allegations during a Pro40 match for his county Essex.During the previous hearing of the case, on July 26, Kaneria had been asked to produce transcripts of the investigation on August 18. According to PCB lawyer Taffazul Rizvi, Kaneria’s lawyers admitted tapes of the questioning exist and those will now be produced before the court.”For the first time Kaneria’s counsel has accepted that the tapes exist but they have not submitted these before the court; so we have to contact our lawyer in England and try to bring those tapes here,” Rizvi told .Though Kaneria was not charged in the spot-fixing case, in which his Essex team-mate Mervyn Westfield faced criminal proceedings, he has not been cleared to play for Pakistan since the incident. He provided the PCB’s integrity committee with various financial records and documents, including a letter from Essex that confirmed he was not charged with any wrongdoing in England. Having failed to satisfy the committee, he filed a petition at the Sindh High Court on July 2.Kaneria will now have to wait to obtain the tapes of his questioning, which his lawyer Mohammad Farogh Naseem said were in the UK with Kaneria’s British lawyer Steve Haurigan.The integrity committee had asked Kaneria to produce transcripts of the investigation before the case began but his lawyers had maintained it was not possible as the transcripts were still part of an ongoing investigation in the UK.Kaneria met the PCB’s integrity committee again, though there was no clear result from that meeting. He now has no hopes of playing in Zimbabwe. With 261 wickets, he is Pakistan’s most-prolific spinner in Tests, but has not played one for nearly a year.”I am doing my best to clear my name but with the adjournment I have lost my chance to play against Zimbabwe next month,” Kaneria told . “I have not lost heart and will do everything to revive my career.”
