'Sonny's coming home!' – Tottenham confirm Son Heung-min's 'return' in surprise announcement

Tottenham have confirmed that club legend Son Heung-min is set to return to north London to watch next week's Champions League fixture with Slavia Prague. The forward, who moved on to MLS side Los Angeles FC for a £20m fee in the summer, will now get the chance to say a proper goodbye to the club's fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on December 9.

Son heading back to Spurs

Spurs have made a surprise announcement and confirmed that Son will be in attendance for their next Champions League match. Son moved to MLS straight after Spurs' pre-season tour of Asia, where he said an emotional farewell to the club in front of adoring fans in South Korea, and will now get the chance to say a proper farewell at Tottenham's home ground.

Tottenham said in a statement: "Sonny will take to the pitch before the team walk-outs ahead of the 20:00 kick-off against the Czech champions. He will then have the opportunity to personally address the supporters that took him into their hearts following his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and treasured him for the next 10 years – it is sure to be an emotional occasion in N17."

AdvertisementGetty Images Sport'It will be emotional' – Son relishing return

Son has also admitted it's going to be an emotional affair when he returns to north London. He told the club's media: “When I announced my difficult decision to leave Spurs in the summer, it was in Korea and I never got a proper chance to say goodbye to fans at the stadium.

"Now I am so happy because I am going to come back to London on 9th December, for the Champions League match, and be able to tell the Spurs fans in person just how much their support and love over 10 years has meant to me and my family. It will be emotional, but it's important for me and the club that this happens.”

Spurs have also confirmed that work is continuing on a mural on Tottenham High Road to pay tribute to Son that will “further celebrate the legacy that Sonny has left in this part of North London”. The design has been chosen by the man himself and is due to be finished in time for the club legend's visit on December 9.

Son thriving in Los Angeles

Son has been thriving in MLS with LAFC since his summer move from Spurs. The South Korea international scored 12 goals and grabbed four assists for his new side in just 13 appearances before the end of the MLS season. LAFC's campaign ended with a play-off defeat to the Vancouver Whitecaps, leaving Son with time to head back home for an emotional reunion with Spurs. The 33-year-old spent a decade in north London, scoring 173 goals during his time with the Lilywhites, and departed after captaining the club to Europa League glory over Manchester United. The win sealed a first trophy for Tottenham in 17 years and further cemented Son's place in the club's history.

GettyWhat next for Son?

Although Son will be in north London next week, he has played down talk of a playing return to Spurs during the MLS off-season. There had been speculation that the South Korean ace could look for a temporary transfer over the winter, but Son has made his loyalty to his new club crystal clear.

“I’ve never spoken to any club about a winter move. Such talk is simply untrue,” he told TV Chosun. “For me, showing respect to my club and giving everything where I play – that’s what matters most. That won’t change.

“I will not leave LAFC this winter, or ever, while I’m here. I respect this club deeply. As long as I’m wearing this badge, there will be no such thing as a loan or a move. Never.”

Phil Foden's wedding plans?! Man City star spotted ring shopping with girlfriend Rebecca Cooke after engagement rumours

Manchester City star Phil Foden has sparked wedding rumours after being spotted ring shopping with girlfriend Rebecca Cooke. The pair were reported to have become engaged after returning from a romantic holiday earlier this year; Cooke was spotted wearing an engagement ring while the pair entered the jewellers in the affluent Cheshire town of Wilmslow.

  • AFP

    Foden sparks wedding rumours

Foden and Cooke have been a relationship since they met as teenagers, and they have three children together. Rumours of an engagement between the pair started in Februrary, after Cooke was spotted wearing a diamond ring in February after a New Years Eve trip to Paris. The couple have not officially announced their engagement, however, their recent trip to the jewellers appears to confirm their upcoming nuptials.

  • Source: "Massive wedding" expected

A source told in February that the pair had agreed to marry after their romantic getaway to France. They commented: "The pair of them have been together since they were young and their family and friends have been expecting them to get engaged for a while.

“The time seemed right for Phil to pop the question. He took her away to Paris for New Year’s Eve and when they came back Rebecca had a sparkling diamond ring on her engagement finger.

“The ring is absolutely huge. It’s a massive diamond. She loves it and she’s very proud of wearing it although she hasn’t announced anything about it.

“But all the wags know and all the players know in Manchester about the ring and everybody is looking forward to maybe an announcement soon that something has happened, maybe an engagement.

“It would certainly be a massive wedding full of footballers and celebrities and Wags.

“Rebecca loves a party and has hosted some amazing baby showers.”

  • Foden's personal life not impacting his play

This is the latest development in the reporting around Foden's personal life. The City star has had to sell his eight-bed Cheshire mansion below the asking price, as he and Cooke relocated to a more secluded house in the countryside. The luxury abode was at the centre of controversy, as the 24-year-old was said to have thrown family parties that sparked multiple noise complaints from his well-to-do neighbours. Cheshire Police were called at one stage, as locals complained the Foden residence was louder than Glastonbury.

However, the stress of shifting his £3.25m digs, does not sseem to have had a negative impact on the playmaker's on-field peformances. After a sub-par outing last term, Foden has been enjoying his football again. Last month, the Cityzens star admitted he had "got his smile back" after a tough year, while England manager Thomas Tuchel promised a "central role" for Foden after omitting him from recent Three Lions squads.

    What comes next for Foden?

Despite those assurances, there are still question marks over Foden's place within the German's starting lineup for next summer's World Cup.

He will have to continue separating the tumult in his personal life with his performances on the pitch. Foden's season continues on Saturday as City take on Leeds at the Etihad.

Roger Clemens Had Awesome Reaction to Son Kody's Homer in First Game at Fenway Park

Roger Clemens had a pretty special Saturday as he got to watch his son, Kody, play at the ballpark where he pitched for many years. Kody, currently a Minnesota Twins infielder, hit a two-run home run against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park Saturday—the first game he played at the legendary park.

Roger watched on from a box inside the stadium as he wore neutral clothing, including a 151st Kentucky Derby hat ahead of the Run for the Roses Saturday. And he loved every second of it.

Roger pitched for the Red Sox for 13 seasons to begin his illustrious 24-year MLB career. After his tenure in Boston, he signed with the Toronto Blue Jays as a free agent before he was dealt to Boston's bitter rival, the New York Yankees, two seasons later. The 11-time All-Star made four All-Star appearances over his time in Boston. He threw two 20-strikeout games over his career, both with the Red Sox.

Kody made his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers in 2022 and made 56 appearances for the team before he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies before the 2023 season. The Phillies traded him to the Twins on April 26 for cash considerations, setting him up for his first career game at Fenway Park.

He wasn't included in the Twins' lineup in the first game of the weekend series Friday, but got the start at second base Saturday. And he provided an awesome Boston sports moment, even if it meant the away team hitting a home run.

Braves Announcers Couldn't Believe Ump’s Game-Ending Strike-Three Call vs. Phillies

The first leg of Thursday’s doubleheader between the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves ended on a questionable call from home plate umpire Bruce Dreckman.

The Braves were able to load the bases with two outs in the top of the ninth inning, trailing the Phillies by a single run. Left fielder Eli White was at the plate facing Phillies closer Jordan Romano.

On the fourth pitch of the at bat, Romano delivered a breaking ball that appeared to be out of the zone, but Dreckman disagreed, punching White out and ending the game.

From the announce booth, the Braves broadcast team lamented the missed call.

Missed calls are a part of baseball, but when they happen in high leverage moments, they are hard to look past.

Thursday’s game-ending call came just hours after an even worse called strike three ended the Angels’ hopes of a comeback against the Yankees on Wednesday night.

Major League Baseball has been experimenting with its ABS challenge system in spring training, which would allow teams the chance to review some calls on balls and strikes. Should the system eventually make its way to the regular season, it’s possible that calls like this are nothing but a memory in the near future.

Arsenal hold preliminary talks with league’s most valuable player after rapid rise

Arsenal have held initial talks with the representatives of a budding midfield talent after his rapid rise, according to a new report.

Arsenal look to bounce back against bottom-side Wolves

Arsenal return to Premier League action on Saturday evening against bottom-side Wolves at the Emirates Stadium in a classic David vs Goliath encounter.

The Gunners saw their advantage at the summit trimmed to just two points following last weekend’s heartbreaking 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa, where Emi Buendia’s last-gasp strike ended their 18-match unbeaten run.

Man City’s victory over Sunderland has intensified the pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side, though Saturday’s late kick-off offers an opportunity to extend the gap to five points before City face Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Arsenal responded impressively to that Villa disappointment with a commanding 3-0 Champions League triumph at Club Brugge on Wednesday evening.

Noni Madueke put in a sensational performance, scoring twice, including a stunning 25-yard strike, while Gabriel Martinelli added another beauty to maintain their perfect European record.

Arteta says "really special" Arsenal star has been so good in training lately

The Spaniard is thrilled with him.

ByEmilio Galantini 3 days ago

The victory all but secured automatic qualification for the knockout stages as one of the seeded teams, but Wolves present an entirely different challenge.

Arriving in north London still searching for their first victory of the campaign, Rob Edwards’ side remain rooted to the foot of the table with just two points from 15 games, sitting an alarming 13 points from safety.

Their Monday night 4-1 home humiliation against Man United extended Wolves’ losing streak to eight consecutive defeats, matching their worst run in Premier League history.

Only QPR in 2012/13 and Sheffield United in 2020/21 have endured longer winless starts to a Premier League season than Wolves’ current nightmare.

Their two points also represent a joint-low after 15 games in top-flight history, highlighting the severity of their catastrophic start.

Arsenal boast an intimidating record against Wolves, winning eight consecutive meetings with an aggregate scoreline of 17-3. The north Londoners remarkably haven’t failed to score against them since February 1979, a remarkable 35-match run, so Edwards’ men are certainly the underdogs heading into this one.

Away from the pitch, sporting director Andrea Berta is continuing his mission to identify top talent for Arteta.

Reports this week suggest that Arsenal have held talks with Yan Diomande’s entourage ahead of a potential move for the teenage RB Leipzig winger, and now the same can be said of Polish sensation Oskar Pietuszewski.

Arsenal hold talks with Oskar Pietuszewski's camp

That is according to TEAMtalk, who report that Arsenal have held discussions with the representatives of Pietuszewski, even if City threaten to hijack their pursuit of the 17-year-old starlet.

Berta dispatched senior Arsenal scouts to Poland on multiple occasions to watch the Jagiellonia Białystok talent in action this season, alongside Chelsea and City, with all three Premier League giants ‘hugely impressed’ by the teenager’s performances.

Arsenal have engaged in preliminary talks with Pietuszewski’s camp as they assess whether to launch a formal bid for one of Poland’s ‘most complete teenage talents in years’.

However, City have intensified their interest by sending their head of emerging talent to Poland, holding their own discussions with Pietuszewski.

Their aggressive approach appears to have positioned them ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea in the three-way battle, but that doesn’t mean Berta should give up.

Pietuszewski has dazzled in the Polish first tier this season, bagging three goals and two assists across 16 appearances, and according to Transfermarkt, he’s now the Ekstraklasa’s ‘most valuable player’ by transfer value.

Primarily deployed as a left-winger, the versatile youngster can operate as a holding midfielder or anywhere across the forward line.

Arsenal have been informed they must pay a minimum of £13m to secure Pietuszewski’s signature, a figure that could rise with performance bonuses and shatter Jagiellonia’s outgoing transfer record.

Born in Białystok, Pietuszewski rose through Jagiellonia’s academy before breaking into the senior squad last season.

His international breakthrough came with four goals in six caps for Poland’s Under-21 side, underlining his rapid ascent.

While open to a Premier League move, Pietuszewski wants first-team minutes. European rivals including Ajax, PSV, Lille, Bologna and Barcelona have also scouted him, so the player could have a long list of suitors knocking at the door very soon.

Better signing than Mbeumo: Man Utd star is now “one of the world’s best”

Manchester United’s lack of success in the Premier League has been there for all to see, with the club now going 12 years without a title – something which was unthinkable during the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

The Red Devils have been through countless managers since the Scotsman’s retirement, but Ruben Amorim is the latest to try and end such a drought.

The 40-year-old has come under huge scrutiny over the last couple of months, and understandably so, given his measly win percentage of just 41% across all competitions.

However, the manager has already been massively backed by the hierarchy in the market, as seen by the £200m spending spree during the summer transfer window.

As part of the heavy backing from INEOS, the former Sporting CP boss added numerous attackers to his first-team squad, with one already making an immediate impact after his move to Manchester.

The stats behind Mbeumo’s start to life at Man Utd

During the summer, a real impetus was placed on improving United’s frontline, which saw the vast majority of their spending directed into the final third.

Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha were just two of the additions made by the hierarchy, with Bryan Mbeumo the final part of the new-look attacking trio formed by INEOS.

The Cameroonian joined in a deal worth a reported £71m from top-division rivals Brentford, with such a deal seeming to be an overpay at the time it was confirmed.

However, 15 games into his career at Old Trafford, such a move now looks like excellent business, with the 26-year-old already scoring six times in the Premier League.

Such a tally is the highest in the first-team squad, but his underlying stats in the league further showcase his impressive start to life at the Theatre of Dreams.

Mbeumo has also registered 1.5 shots on target per 90, with an accuracy rate of 58%, with both tallies currently the highest of any player in the first-team setup.

The United star who’s becoming the best in the world

Despite the struggles over the last couple of seasons, numerous United players have still managed to catch the eye – but none more so than Bruno Fernandes.

The 31-year-old, who’s the club’s captain, registered by far and away the most goals and assists last campaign, subsequently ending the year on 37 goal contributions across all competitions.

He’s no doubt been at world-class level over the past couple of years, with more of an argument certainly being made after showcasing his versatility under Amorim in 2025/26.

Bruno has dropped into a deeper midfield role this season, but it has not stopped him from starring in the Premier League – as seen by his incredible tally of 10 goals and assists in his 15 appearances.

Alongside Mbeumo and Bruno, goalkeeper Senne Lammens has also massively exceeded all expectations after his own summer transfer to join the Red Devils.

The Belgian was brought in from Royal Antwerp on deadline day to bolster the shot-stopping department and provide an upgrade on the now departed Andre Onana.

Whilst he had to bide his time early on in his career at Old Trafford, the 23-year-old has now cemented himself as the club’s number one between the sticks and has become one of Amorim’s star men.

He’s now featured in nine league matches after his summer transfer, with his stats from the current campaign showcasing his immediate impact – leading to huge praise being directed his way.

Lammens has conceded just 11 goals in his nine matches to date, subsequently registering two saves per 90 whilst achieving a save percentage of 62% – one of the best records in the division.

He’s already prevented 0.14 goals this season – ranking him in the top 25% of all ‘keepers in league, resulting in one analyst labelling him “one of the best in the world”.

The Belgian’s impressive figures have also been evident with the ball at feet, subsequently completing 6.9 long balls per 90, which places him in the top 15% of other goalkeepers in England’s top-flight.

Given his £15m fee and the issues that the club faced in such an area before his move, it’s safe to say that Lammens has certainly been a better addition than Mbeumo.

At just 23, he has plenty of time in his career to reach the next level, which certainly could allow him to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world for at least the next decade.

18x ball lost: Amorim must ruthlessly bench overhyped 5/10 Man Utd man

Manchester United dropped yet more points at Old Trafford after another lacklustre performance under Ruben Amorim. The Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened West Ham United, failing to create many substantial chances despite having the lion’s share of the possession.

Indeed, the first half went by without the home side creating too many chances of note. The closest they came was thanks to an effort from Joshua Zirkzee.

The Dutchman, who was one of the best players in Red on the night, saw his well-directed effort cleared off the line by former United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

It took United until the second half to break the deadlock. It was a rare Premier League goal from Diogo Dalot, which was enough to put Amorim’s side ahead, and what a strike it was.

The ball dropped to the wing-back in the penalty area, and after a superb first touch, he fired the Red Devils ahead.

United never looked like doubling their lead, with Amorim making substitutions but once again opting against bringing Kobbie Mainoo on.

They paid the price with seven minutes left. The Hammers equalised thanks to a late strike from player of the match Soungoutou Magassa.

Indeed, Amorim’s underwhelming substitutions did not help United’s cause.

Amorim’s in-game management vs. West Ham

One of the biggest criticisms against the United manager throughout his 12-month tenure has been his in-game management. Well, the substitutions he made against the Hammers on Thursday night were underwhelming.

Zirkzee, who was linking up play nicely, was replaced by Mason Mount, and Manuel Ugarte was also brought on. That meant there was once again no place for Mainoo, who still cannot get the chance to showcase his skills for an extended period in the Premier League.

Lisandro Martinez also came on with the score at 1-1. It was a positive thing to see the 2022 World Cup winner coming stepping onto the Old Trafford pitch for the first time since February, but bringing a centre-back on when your side is chasing a goal to win the game is a strange call.

United social media presence, Alice said, the manager’s “subs and in-game management is shocking time and time again.” She also called out the decision to take Zirkzee off, and bringing Ugarte on over Mainoo when the Red Devils “need control” to help get over the line.

However, there was one substitution Amorim did get right, taking off one player who struggled.

The United star who's been overhyped

It was not the return from injury that Matheus Cunha may have hoped for. He was replaced by Ugarte on the 77-minute mark, after a performance which was “ineffective”, according to journalist Laurie Whitwell.

Indeed, the Brazilian struggled to get into the game against the East Londoners. He only had 46 touches across the 90 minutes, losing the ball 18 times and failing to create a chance in that time.

Off the ball, United’s number ten won just three from 11 duels.

His disappointing performance earned him a 5/10 rating from Goal journalist Richard Martin. He noted that Cunha failed to make any sort of impact, describing his efforts at Old Trafford as ‘underwhelming’.

It remains to be seen if Amorim will keep Cunha in the starting lineup for the next game, a trip to his former club, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Brazilian has not really hit the ground running for the Red Devils so far, with just one goal and no assists in 11 Premier League games.

Whilst that is not necessarily just his fault, United fans may well have wanted more from one of their marquee summer additions. Perhaps there was an element of Cunha getting overhyped, with CEO Omar Berrada suggesting he could be “Cantona-esque” for the club.

That is a lot of pressure for someone to have placed on them immediately after joining a huge club, despite the Brazilian’s obvious confidence.

Things have not really gone that way for Cunha so far in a United shirt, and his performances have certainly left a little to be desired, as the game against West Ham showed.

With other options, such as Mount and Mainoo, at Amorim’s disposal, he may well make the bold decision to rotate his number 10 out of the starting 11 next Monday. Cunha can certainly add a little bit extra in the final third to make him a more dangerous option going forward.

£30m Man Utd flop has been so bad he makes Ugarte look like a good signing

INEOS have made great strides of late with regard to Man Utd’s recruitment, although it hasn’t all been perfect.

1 ByRobbie Walls Dec 4, 2025

20 years after leaving Arsenal, £86m star is now “the best in the world”

Hale End. Arsenal’s famed academy is certainly one of the best in the country right now at producing first-team-ready players.

Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe both made their name during the early stages of the Mikel Arteta era and in the present day, plenty more are coming through.

Last season, it was all about the magnificent Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly. Nwaneri broke through first as a 15-year-old a few years ago but it’s arguably Lewis-Skelly who’s made the best transition. He’s now a regular with England.

This season it’s all been about Max Dowman. He’s the youngest debutant in Champions League history. Put it simply, he’s a generational talent.

Let’s not forget young Marli Salmon either. Not since the days of Tony Adams and Martin Keown has Arsenal’s youth system produced a defender who’s fit to play at senior level.

Between then and now, it’s safe to say there have been few to slip through the cracks of Hale End. Here are their stories…

The ones that got away for Arsenal

The Gunners have always had a habit of producing some fine young players, not just in the present day but over the last two to three decades.

Some may remember that Manchester United legend, Andy Cole, came through Arsenal’s academy. As did Ashley Cole. The less said about his exit the better.

He’s arguably the finest talent to ever come through the club’s youth system but he is now a legend on the blue side of London at Chelsea instead. That departure still stings to this day.

In more recent times, more notable examples include German superstar Serge Gnabry. He wasn’t good enough in the eyes of Tony Pulis during a loan spell with West Brom. He was for Arsenal but Arsene Wenger and Co struggled to tie him down.

He’s now won the whole lot at Bayern Munich, featuring on 304 occasions for the German giants, scoring 98 goals and supplying 67 assists.

Another winger at Bayern by the name of Michael Olise was also on the Arsenal books as a youngster. His story isn’t too well-known but he ended up taking the same route as Cole, joining Chelsea before heading to Manchester City and then eventually making his name at Reading.

Former Chelsea coach Sean Conlon recalled Olise’s story in 2022, saying: “Michael was also training with Arsenal at the time because before you move into the U9s, you’re allowed to train with multiple teams. But he probably lived closer to Chelsea and they obviously have a great academy so he ended up signing for them.”

Yet, there’s another name at Bayern who used to call Arsenal home, and his story is certainly a famous one.

Arsenal's biggest regret at Hale End

As Arsenal struggled to beat lowly Wolves on Saturday night, they needed a ruthless centre-forward, someone capable of getting on the end of the chances Saka was creating.

In days gone by they’ve been able to rely on the likes of Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Yet, since the Gabonese forward’s departure from north London, they’ve not had a prolific striker in their armoury.

It was thought that Viktor Gyokeres would be that man. He won the Gerd Muller Trophy for being the best striker in Europe last season, fending off competition from the likes of Erling Haaland and Harry Kane. He looked like a good signing on paper.

However, six goals in 19 games for the Gunners tells a different story. He’s now some way behind Haaland and indeed Kane, a forward who is famously a boyhood Gooner.

There’s that incredible picture of Kane as a boy donning Arsenal red and white but now he’s more associated with Tottenham Hotspur instead. In those parts, he’s a legend, he’s their all-time record goalscorer, he’s England’s record goalscorer too.

He’s Arsenal’s biggest what-if. As a child, he was part of Arsenal’s youth setup but it didn’t work out, largely due to his frame. It’s a remarkable tale, one that former academy manager Roy Massey recalls.

He once told talkSPORT: “Harry was a lovely young player. He was quiet, shy, didn’t have what we thought it would take to become a professional footballer and so we were totally mistaken.”

Massey continued: “Although I’ve got to say that when Harry was released when he was 11 or 12 years of age, he did go to play for his Sunday league club for the next three years so no other club’s picked him up in that age group. It was only when he was 15 he went to Tottenham and obviously he’s had great success.”

Liam Brady further detailed the events that led to Kane leaving Arsenal, saying: “He was a bit chubby, he wasn’t very athletic but we made a mistake.”

As Brady says, they did indeed make a massive mistake. Son Heung-min labelled his former teammate as “the best player in the world” back in 2018 and seven years on, that is now certainly true.

Aged 32, Kane is “the best striker in the world” in the words of Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav. That praise came after yet another hat-trick on the 6th December. The Standard’s Dom Smith, meanwhile, insists that he is “one of the five best players” that the game has to offer. Kylian Mbappe, Haaland? Who else can better him? Very few, if any. No one has scored more in Europe’s top five leagues than him this season.

In total, England’s captain has found the net on 113 occasions in 119 matches for Bayern after his mega £86 move. This season alone, he has scored 28 in 23, firmly making him one of the favourites to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or award. Should Bayern win the Champions League and/or England win the World Cup, he will likely be the favourite.

This story is without a doubt one of football’s biggest what-if moments. Just imagine if he’d been donning Arsenal red instead of Spurs white.
